I'm 49 and the first exposure I had to anything that even resembled metal was some of the collection of rush. Then, when I was like 17 or 18, the first Metallica song I ever heard was welcome home sanitarium. The rest is history. All the metal, the hair bands (I was never into the REAL heavy stuff). METALLICA melted my entire head. Smashing pumpkins blew me away. Same with Linkin Park. And somewhere in there this thing called Nevermind happened. It changed everything. And Green Day and Pearljam. OMG. So much fucking awesome music. I'd rather be blind than deaf. And here we are less than a month from 2022. Can you believe it? Right now, my favorite bands are Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin and (don't hate me please) Five Finger Death Punch. I totally agree, i'm in the minority when it comes to being a (casual) fan of Tool. I dig some of their songs(so bored of Schism, please stop mentioning Schism while always ignoring Stinkfist) but feel like they are the Metallica of this genre...their songs are so drawn out and long as if they are trying to prove grandiose like an epic Blockbuster film. My mom plays Forty-Six & Two on repeat and i dig it but can only listen to tribal drums for so many minutes. Chevelle seems to have the ability to take elements i like from other bands and simplify it into one tight, emotion-packed 5 minutes(and its funny, cause i'll listen to Shot From A Cannon on repeat no problem??)They hit that perfect formula for me, great pacing, riff that hooks you, then Pete's vocals are the icing on the cake.
