If you are doing the timing belt as maintenance and not because of failure align the timing marks then make marks on belt and gears remove belt count the teeth between marks on old belt and mark new belt. This will make it easier to make sure it is in time . Always do the complete job replace all pulleys and water pump if applicable.

@@candyman8042002 No absolutely not. Use an assembly lube.. any grease will work even petro jelly or dielectric whatever you have on hand

Hi, does the Chevrolet lacetti have the same engine as the aveo mines a 1.4 and am looking at replacing the belt very soon. This engine looks extremely similar to the engine in my car.

I was told not to use gasket seal on water pump with o ring casket. I'm installing now and would like your opinion. I have casket seal but just not sure if I should use it or not. Thank you for quick response.

I wish you would of showed how you turn the water pump and tensioner because if the tension is wrong and the belt slips you can damage your engine.

I completely understand, I just needed both hands and couldn't film it myself. However you should rotate the water pump until the arrow on the tensioner lines up with the other on the far right of the tensioner, then rotate the belt 2 times around, at which time you then rotate the water pump counterclockwise until the arrow matches up with the mark on the tensioner. My advice is to follow the directions that come with your kit as best you can. Hopefully that helps you out a bit, let me know if I can do anything else

Hi Ryan, I know that is has been some time since you uploaded it. But if you can remember, would you please explain more how to remove and reinstall the cam sprockets. I have an impact gun but I'm afraid I will spin them in the process of removing, but surely when titening. Did you use any special tool? Or what was the thechnic you used? Thanks in advance for your help and thanks for filming yourself doing such a hard process so that the rest of us can learn through you.

Rene Anduray Hey Rene, you should be able to spin them off and on with your impact gun with no problem. Your gun will create enough torque to spin the bolts without turning the cams much

Bro! a question?? which direction did you use to release the tension of the water pump in order to get the timing belt it off?? clockwise?? or counterclockwise??

It's been a minute since I did this, but if I remember correctly I turned the pump counter clockwise to release tension, and clockwise to tighten. If you look at the pump from the front you will see that the the Lully side is off center and that is what makes the bet tighten when you rotate the pump. Hopefully that helps, let me know if I can do anything else for you

can you impact the cam gears back on? or am I going to spin the cam and bend valves? should I tighten the cam nuts whime the timing belts on?

Proper impact guns can put can gears on, they use torque to spin the bolt without turning the cam. You would be okay to do that with the belt off. Hope that helps, sorry for the slow reply

+Ryan Gross Wow I wouldn't call that a slow reply at all, I wasn't sure I even was going to get one! I did end up using an impact to get the bolts out, but did what Jimmy suggested to get them back in. Thank you for the reply!

+Jimmy S I ended up doing just that! I have an impact with a max torque of 200 IBS with three settings. I ended up using the lowest of the three hoping I'd get about 50 IBS atleast. I guess I'll find out if that wasn't enough in the long run.

I believe in the flat rate book gives four hours for this job, but It only took me a few, and doing it the second time around without filming I could probably do it it in two

A lot of missing information. Need to go back and check your steps. If something is held on with four bolts don't say a couple bolts. Say four bolts. Give information on any special fasteners such as an allen or hex head bolts. Also know the difference between clock wise and counter clock wise.

If you can't complete this task by following the steps in the video, then you probably should take your vehicles to a mechanic. This is an informal video designed to give a basic understanding of the task in a limited amount of time. If you need more than that, I suggest purchasing a manual or taking an automotive class.

haha! Boom! People don't appreciate you taking time out to hold a camera while trying to complete a task. And they want perfection! This was awesome for me because I have never done ANYTHING to an Aveo. It gives me a basic understanding of what I'm about to be faced with, and can plan my day. Of course I will have a manual with torque specs and all that. But this video is just what I needed to plan the whole job and get the right parts. THANKS brother! :-)
