This is the best video I've seen someone make on how to work on a vehicle. This guy is very descriptive, gives alternate ways of performing a task, the camera is always in the perfect position, tells you the torque specs, list every tool your going to need at the beginning of the video, time stamped the video, and has links to the parts and special tools in the description. Great video man, keep up the good work!

2016 chevy sonic...1st time changing timing belt, did it solo...followed these steps but had the locking tool kit and hand tools...took me 5hrs...she fired up...drove it across the yard, parked it and celebrated with a cold one...thank you for the video...

Excellent video saved my butt. I bought the locking tool kit it was junk didn’t fit thought I was sunk then I watched your video how to simply marked the teeth on the gears in relation to the plastic housing genius! But I have to say it took me about 17 hours not 20 minutes like in your video LOL. For other people reading some of the troubles I ran into were loosening my drainage plug. A cheap nylon screw very flimsy I wasted 45 minutes and finally pulled one of the hoses off to drain the coolant. The other problem I had was putting the splash guard back on pieces were missing so I just used a few zip ties and drilled a couple holes no she’s tighter than ever. One other issue was when I was all done I had a cooler line leak where the aluminum pipe attaches to the thermostat housing luckily I had an O-ring that would fit and was able to secure it without a leak. Again great video thank you so much for taking the time.If you’re ever on the big island in Hawaii say hello Mahalo Dave

After many hours of trying to get the timing belt over the tensioner I finally found this video, which showed me I needed to remove the locking tool from between the cam sprockets and turn the intake cam to tighten the belt between the camshaft sprockets. Once that was done I had enough belt to get it onto the timing belt tensioner in a few seconds. Thank you for showing this method of changing the belt.

Great video. It also shows that the fancy camshaft tools aren't needed, like the 3 mechanics I've been to insist on having, forcing me to a dealer. Turns out the dealer is as cheap as those mechanics anyway on the estimates for all this. FYI, nearly all of them are around the $1300 range for timing belt, Idler Pulley, Tensioner, and water pump.

Thanks thats a great video .. i change my timing belt , but my car won't start , what it could be ? My car stop runing on the street with time belt was damage from the teeths
@MakeItEasyMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Theres probably some valve damage. If the timing belt broke with the engine running - pistons could've hit the valves, which would cause a compression issue. Next step is check the compression in each cylinder.

I don't have an impact wrench or crankcase locking tool. Can I use a screwdriver or something similar to lock the flywheel? Otherwise, I'll put it top gear with the handbrake on to remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
@MakeItEasyMechanic3 жыл бұрын
If you can get to it with a screw driver, I dont see why not
@MikePalmer6293 жыл бұрын
Is it necessary to have it on top dead, or can you remove the belt without rotating the engine?
@MakeItEasyMechanic3 жыл бұрын
I've replaced timing belts before without setting the engine at TDC, just made sure cams and crank were in the exact same position as they were when I took the old belt off.

Hey, I was in other videos, they lock the flying wheel as well using a tool, is that important?
@MakeItEasyMechanic3 жыл бұрын
From the standpoint of torquing the crank pulley bolt properly - yes. But if you're just concerned about keeping it in time - no. There are timing marks to keep it in time.
