Yes, the Veyron was an incredible piece of engineering to be sure...but it retailed for almost 2 million at the time. In today's dollars that would be about $3.6 million. The ZR1 will probably spec under $300K @@aventusV33

@@Luke-cb3ly Yeah, I have a Z51... given the new models I consider it a base model, haha. Yeah I know the stripped 1LT base is faster due to the different final drive ratio. Z51 is a bit quicker light to light, but slower in the top end speed. Wondering what they did with the TR9080 in the ZR1? Is it the same version from the Z06 which supposedly has a magnesium case instead of aluminum? Did they change some gear ratios too? or is this new top speed just based on the higher engine RPM while in 8th gear?

@@PBrooksSawyer And??? What does the TT have to do with top speed? Unless in 8th gear it helps the engine to rev higher. All that matters is RPM of the engine and gear ratio of the DCT and final drive, this leads to a maximum wheel rotational RPM. Turbos just get you there quicker...

I once rode shotgun in a C8 with a local chap here in the UAE and I recall him mentioning that he will pick the C8 over his other exotic sports cars just because it was so much easier to drive and maneuver in traffic on a daily basis. I gained huge respect for the Corvette since that day. Great job, GM!

Weight won't have that big of an effect tbf. Otherwise Bugatti would've really struggled with top speed runs considering they are like 500-700 kgs heavier than the competition.

Couldn't be more happy for the Corvette team, GM, and for all the car nuts in Michigan! This ZR1 absolutely crushes the top speeds of a Porsche 911 Turbo (205 mph) and their million dollar Porsche 918 Spyder (214 mph)! What an achievement! Everyone on the Corvette team and all Americans can feel very proud of it :)

I have an old 2024 Z51 "classic" too. Lol.. Bought it as a temporary Corvette. I got on a reservation list to order a ZR1 when it was only in development 2 years ago. But I am considering keeping both Corvettes to add to my 1987 Buick Grand National and 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Indy Pace Car collection.

maybe when you could get one for $40k! Now you're lucky to get a base model for less than $100k, not including dealer markups. The corvette is no longer and hasn't been the peoples car since the C6. The Corvette line has become the wannabe Porsche with the price tag to match. Definitely not the "best bang for the buck" when I could buy a base model Mustang for 36k and put 15k into it and match the performance.

@@EVOVIISWE But driving a secondary axle does affect top speed. Zora will be quick but not as fast as the ZR-1. The E-Ray cannot use its' front electric drive past 150 mph, so it has a 183 mph top end vs. the 195 mph top end of the Z06. Both have similar power, but the Z06 has a huge top speed advantage.

I think they are referring to the Zora. Which will most likely have this LT7 along with an electric motor. Or all electric perhaps but I think they will still use LT7. Exciting times to be a Corvette enthusiast nonetheless

Unfortunately professional race cars have almost nothing to do with the street cars you can buy. I don''t really care who wins in pro racing. Might as well race airplanes with most of their wings cut off. It's mostly a waste of corporate money. The latest on the GM racing scene is that DEI (didn't earn it) is on the upswing = bad news. So don't look for too many wins. The cars I can actually buy and use mean much more to me. All the C8 models are great which is all that matters.

Fantastic job GM! I've been a Corvette fan for a long time now, and I have a request. You'll probably never even read this, but I miss when you used to publish the Nurburgring times. I KNOW the C8 Z06 is a sub 7 minute car and I wish you guys could confirm the numbers so we can have more bragging rights again. Show the world that the C8 Z06 is right up there with the $350,000 Mustang GTD and 911 GT3 RS for so much less money. We miss seeing the times!

This is why i love chevy always doing things that most people think impossible and other manufacturers wont. Been a Chevy guy since i was 16 my first car was a 79 358 4 speed hot rod camaro. Im now 45 iv owned 4 camaros now loving my gen 6. Iv never had a lot of money but always had a awesome car and truck thanks to chevy making cars for guys like me. The funny thing though is that Buick led the way in 1987 with the Grand Nationals. If Chevy was really doing the impossible, they could have turbocharged Corvettes way back then. Imagine all the really fast Corvettes we could have had since then... Good thing they are finally catching up to 1987.

Yeah well there's 0 chance the Callaway wasnt a rock chip away from taking flight since it only had 880 hp.up. 250mph normally requires 1,000+ so the Callaway had to be super low drag and basically no downforce. New zr1 is heavily limited due to downforce which makes the power way more usable

Lloyd Reuss pushed development of the 1984-1987 Buick Grand Nationals. He was moved to head up Pontiac and pushed development of the 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am. Now his son Mark Reuss supported development of the 2025 ZR1. When I get a chance to order one in a couple of years, I will have all 3 of the "Reuss Family" collection of GM turbocharged cars.

It's a turbocharged engine. More power is just a few keystrokes away. (If you can get access to the ECU. I hear the encryption is daunting.) GM has made 1200 hp with that engine.

Incredible achievement from the Corvette team. And amazing dedication to provide such amazing performance at such a value. Chevy could easily ask $500K for this monster....and people would pay it....but they don't and I think that's what makes Chevy and the whole team special. Ford, you got a response?

they couldnt ask 500k, it would fail to sell horribly. 300k would be the limit on MSRP that people are willing to pay but that would severely reduce the number of buyers

500k no one would buy this car. Ford is never going to have a response for this. the ford GT makes almost half the power this thing does.

@@swiftyy7583 You kind of prove my point...For the specs you're getting on the new ZR1 and the proven track performance of the design, they absolutely could get $500K....maybe the production numbers would be lower, but consider the 2nd Gen Ford GT which first listed for about $450K back in 2016. They stopped production of those in 2022 and they only made about 1300 of them total. I think most people think of the GT as a hyper-car. Chevy will probably produce between 3000-5000 of the ZR1's , which I think is amazing that so many people could get their hands on such an amazing car. If they raised the price to $500K and they sold only 1500 of them, would that put it into hyper-car territory? If not, my next question would be, "What constitutes a hyper-car?"

all 1000+ hp cars are physically capable of more than 217 lol. It's just that manufacturers set an electronic limiter at 217 (or 350kph) out of factory

People out here still saying the C8 isn't a supercar or hypercar. I would LOVE to see the reasoning as so why a 233 mph twin turbo V8 mid engine car is not a hyper or at the very least a supercar. Please enlighten me

I think it is definitely a supercar. I think hypercars are more than just performance. They sort of specify the use of expensive materials and extremely high tech. The ZR1 is a brute force powerhouse, but compared even to other supercars it is relatively inexpensive and will be much more widely available. I think it definitely qualifies as a supercar due to its horsepower stats and performance but hypercar is a super lofty classification in my book.
