You gotta watch getting the rods to hot, there's a certain temp it works best without weaking the rod, can't remember what temp the machines are set for but I know it isn't to much more before the risks kick in. If you get the rod end hot enough to turn blue/purple its cutting it close to being overheated and you step into the risk zone. Of course some coloring is gonna occur when u heat them you just wanna be careful and not have to much color there.. I know it doesn't seem like some heat can damage them solid heavy rods but trust it can weakin the small end cause it to twist, bend, or even break plumb off in certain scenarios. But for just your average backyard project id say you done a good job. I mean if it was gonna be a high performance race engine im sure you'd be doing things a little different. Wanna see this bad boy fire up when you get it all done and ready! Im keeping up with the series 😁

Make sure you figure out your piston ring gaps based on using this in a marine application. The gaps should be wider for marine application than those used in a street application. I used the hypereutectic pistons on my own 350 SBC build for a Volvo Penta 5.7 GSI. Piston ring end gaps on my build called for .034”. That is huge compared to what the street application calls for but nonetheless it needs to be larger due to the marine engine operating at higher rpm over extended periods. Your piston instruction sheet should point you to the right gap for your specific piston type. You may also want to check what the recommended piston sidewall clearance is.

Thanks for the info, i just followed what the instructions said for my application. Hopefully everything works out fine

@@cali530marcos3 The pistons you used were made by United Engine from Carson City Nv. I know their instructions address this so if you followed what they say, you will be ok.

Dished pistons is what came out of it, damn things are useless in the performance scene 🤣 compression killers i call them

You changed the balance of the pistons and using the old wrist pins. The new wrist pins can be used. You have to do a little math and make a stop for the pin.

Yea, it's not going to be a racing engine or see high rpm for a long period of time so hopefully everything is good, if not then we will all find out together

@@cali530marcos3 you'll notice if its to out of balance, will have a vibration at higher rpm, if its real bad it'll have that same vibration at idle. For what it is a little vibration at high rpm isn't gonna matter as much if your not winding it out much. But if it gets to where u can feel it just cruising around id pull it back apart and have it balanced before it wrecks some bearings or worse but like I said more then likely won't be to bad in normal rpm range

DANGER, Incomplete process, pressing step not shown. I don't think anyone should follow this video unless they have successfully installed wrist pins on pistons before. If this is your first build, BE VERY CAREFUL. the pressing step is not shown. The wrist pins will slide out of the piston rod and destroy the side of the cylinder wall, destroying the block. This is an absolutely critical step that was omitted for some reason. Otherwise, thank you for trying to show how to do this, I really like your videos. But this one looks to be incomplete and is absolutely critical that this step is done 100% correctly. People really do like your work. If possible please try to be more accurate showing all the steps with this kind of stuff. A first time builder may not catch the danger of this process. Please correct me if I am wrong. I'm trying to study to build my first sbc 350. I've seen what those wrist pins can do to a cylinder wall.

When installing new pistons on ur rods first u have to see which type of rod u have, is it a press fit rod or a rod that uses a locking pins for the wrist pins. My rods are press fit but if using a press there is a high chance of damaging the new pistons, so what u need to do is heat up the end of the rod so it expands in order for the wrist pin to slide in the rod with ease. Once the rod cools down the wrist pin is locked in place and won't move

Also for people worried to do this themselves or lack the experience or ability itll be worthwhile to just take them into the machine shop, all shops have different rates obviously but I think on average they'll charge around $7 per rod to remove the old piston and press the new 1 on for you. Definitely worth the $50 to me just to save the time and trouble but if you wanna save the cash this way works just read up a little more on it. Having a jig to hold 1 side of the piston and stopper for the pin helps a bunch. They can be made fairly quick and easy

As to answer the comment.... @11:22 .....He did show heating the rod and sliding the pin in 🤔 not really sure what else you mean he left a step out..Did you watch all the video or just skip around and assumed it wasn't there 😆 🤣 its in there though
