This was misdiagnosed by several dealers, or they just wanted to over charge me for some other issue. My 2010 Silverado smoked like yours with a very rough start up. Could not get the check engine light to turn off for over a year. which also means you can not use auto start. I did use the Dorman though, not knowing any details about that part vs GM. Long story short I fired it up after installing and low and behold my check engine light turned off immediately and has not come back on for about 500 miles. Knock on wood. No more smoke on start up. Thanks for the video.

You should wipe down the surface of the heads where the valve cover gasket sits using a rag damp with brake cleaner before reinstalling. I had the blue smoke too, but I instead drilled some extra holes in the original valve cover and enlarged the original weep hole which seemed to fix the problem. I haven't had a chance to check the oil consumption yet, but the blue smoke is gone
@2Jeezuzisreal3 ай бұрын
We decided to drill out our old valve cover as suggested by several KZbin tutorials for the LS engines. We have a Yukon 2005 5.3 and we did this drilling out at least 10 holes and it all went well we test drove it the first day for 10 milrs and shut it off. the next day unfortunately it started leaking down on the exhaust manifold and smoking. I assumed the original OEM gasket would be sufficient

I really need help because this got me scratching my head. 05 5.3 270k. Every once in awhile I'd get a bit of smoke on startup nothing major. Well couple weeks ago I was out running errands. Truck drove great like always. Got home and parked it for a few hours. Had to go to corner store and while backing out my driveway I had no brakes (brake line from master cylinder blew under driver's side door) so pulled back in and also noticed idle was a little off and bouncing like it wanted to stall. Truck sat for 4 days until I could replace the brake line. Well I started it and now it smokes out the tailpipe and has a jumpy idle. No check engine light or overheating and oil looks good with good pressure. I know about the pcv valve problem these have but I don't think a pcv would cause this much smoke. I'm scared to drive it. Weird this happened when my brake line gave out. Help would be greatly appreciated
@RustBucketRepair Жыл бұрын
First off, I'm not a mechanic, so take what I say with a grain of salt. If it's the pcv valve, the smoke should clear up after the truck runs for a few minutes. The bouncing idle could be a fouled plug from the burning oil. My #1 plug would foul, but I'd also get a check engine light. Run the truck for a while and see if the smoke clears. Also, pull off the hose from the pcv and see if there is any oil in it. It will be very little. Wipe it with a paper towel and see if there is any oil on it. The only way the brakes are connected to the motor is through the vacuum line. Could that be part of your problem?? I don't think so.
@jimmydavis6254 Жыл бұрын
I know this is a couple of months old, but I bet your master cylinder is leaking brake fluid into your brake booster and the vacuum is pulling it into the intake manifold and burning it along with the gas causing the white smoke.
