It is. It also makes a mess in the solenoid behind the motor too. That caused a lot of the P0651 side of the problem with the 5v reference wire that controls the throttle and CKP sensor.
@Jaymx1666 жыл бұрын
Hello Brian, really hoping you can possibly shed some light on something. I'm trying to figure out how the p0651 is related to the air pump. I have a 2007 cobalt 2.2 with the reduced power, engine disabled p0651 and p2430. I have ecm pinouts and wiring diagrams and I dont see how they are related. I have confirmed I have no 5 volts on the reference 2 circuit thr car was starting for a while but would run like crap misfiring etc. Now its completely locked out. I had condemned the ecm for not having 5 volt reference output but your video threw a wrench in my thoughts. Thanks for any help you may give.

I have a key trouble something like that with my car. I'm still able to get it to turn from the off position after a few tries, and I've just had it parked for the last year. putting it back on the road soon, I'll have to get that fixed. there is at least one recall for the key ignition. on my car, I just found the engine fuse box is corroded. pulled the starter relay and one terminal broke off in the socket. what fun. but I still do like my cobalt, and will still be your friend.

Bought one new in 08 still driving in 2020. Original battery lasted 12yrs. All in all done very little to it that you wouldn’t do to any other car. Mine doesn’t have the air pump. BTW I love the oil cartridge located on top. I find it very easy to get to. Heck I’ve a lot easier than crawling underneath. 11/4” socket and it’s out in secs with no mess at all. Just like old tractors. One thing that is coming to light on drive ability issues is grounds. The way they did the grounds aren’t holding up. Easy thing to overlook. But I’m at 225 mi and it still drives like new.

As a Cobalt owner, I take no offense whatsoever to your Cobalt bashing. Let me make a long story short, My 2008 was very troublesome. The fact that I am a mechanic myself and a motor head is why that car is still around. Just about all my family and friends have come to the consensus that if that car were owned by anyone else, it would probably be in the junkyard right now. 2008 was probably the worst year for the Cobalt; I used to work for GM and I dealt with more 2008's then any other.
@ripingpuma24609 жыл бұрын
+suburbanator91 what is your opinion on the 2009...i recently bought a 2009...i saw a lot of people had complaints from 2004-2007 i figured the 2009 wouldve been better...i heard about all the recalls they had on the cobalt...and i figured after 6 years making the same car chevy mightve learned a thing or 2!
@suburbanator919 жыл бұрын
+RIPing PUMA, IF! the Chevy Cobalt is what you have to have, shoot for 2009 or 2010; they tend to be the better ones. Based on service records, 2008 was the worst years for the Cobalt/ G5. The 2005-2007 tends to fair just a bit better. Any Cobalt is a real hit and miss. One of the many things that killed the Cobalt was their inconstancy in their quality; one Cobalt in the line could come out as a nice solid trouble free car for 200K miles, but literally the one behind it was you typical Friday nighter reliving the quality problem's of the 1970's (Such as my [brand-new] Cobalt that had me walking after not even owning it for 2 weeks). RIPing PUMA, I can go on and on here and you are not the only one asking me this; I don't think you want an essay from me either. When I have some time, I will make a video on this topic.

Did a DTC check at O''Reillys and came up with codes P0411, 2430, 2431, 2432, 2433. Does this sound like I have a bad (air pump) or a bad (secondary air injection sensor)?

THANK YOU! I dont think I would have even known where to look for a very strange but similar issue with my 07 cobalt suddenly refusing to start (always after driving it 30+ mins, so when I was out and thus stuck somewhere). It was reading out code 2430, but no others, before the starting issues, and then after being towed to a shop and sitting for a few days over new years wknd, started up again miraculously monday AM before shitting the bed again tues night...I think based on your video that it may have something to do with the air pump collective water and drying out, or something of that nature preventing the 5V ref for the car to start (batt is fine). Since it is an odd issue, I dont think it would be too easy for most shops to diagnose and am going to check a few parts/fuses myself first to narrow it down and hopefully fix whatever glitch seems to be causing the problems, as the car runs fine besides this starting issue. I want to try to trip the starter directly, and rule out the ignition switch, starter or air pump as problem sources...I have already reset the ECM a couple of times, do I need to do a relearn after each one (for cycles or keys?) it started up 2 days after the first reset monday morning (and for like 10 times after that)...

You saw a lot of GM stuff in the early Saturn line, then Saturn stuff in the GM line- particularly Pontiac before they killed Pontiac and Saturn. I see some strategy in that. Unfortunately this lame duck late year Saturn influence made it over into the cheap Chevy lines. Badges mean nothing these days when describing quality. The dollar is dieing hard. Everything is being outsourced to temporarily prop up our standard of living. We need to produce here and reign in the imperialism feathers.

Hey Brian, I doubt that you still have that Black Cobalt (girl's car) in your shop but, maybe you can help me by reviewing your footage? I have a 07 Pontiac G5 & its missing a relay in the underhood fuse box! Its for the cooling fan, its the only 5 pin relay, for the spot that says, "Cool fan"... then there is cool fan 1 & 2 but, its the one thats only marked "cool fan" & its the 5 pin. .If u go to the bottom. Of the fuse box, then touch the MIDDLE relay along the bottom row, THEN GO UP TO THE NEXT RELAY STRAIGHT UP???? WHAT IS THE NUMBERS ON THAT RELAY? ITS UP & TO THE LEFT OF THE "CRANK" RELAY. ON THAT CAR THAT YOUR WORKING ON, THE FUSE BOX SAYS COOL FAN & 3 OTHER WORDS THAT I CANNOT MAKE OUT. The dealer can't help me, trust me, I've tried & tried. Then, all the ones in my local junk yard are allready missing all the relays.

When assigning blame, you sometimes have to question how much control that the actual engineers/designers have. For example, in the electronics world, the actual engineers will often create a product full of fail-safes and quality-ensuring designs. But then that product gets shipped to a manufacturer, usually in China, where it's chipped away at, and literally has components removed to see how much cost they can reduce in manufacturing while still making the product (mostly) work as intended.

Some time around 2003 someone came on board in the computer/electronics dept that really stirred things up and did some damage to their reputation. I'm not going to name names, but their heart and work belong at Volkswagen. I say that, because Volkswagen has the means and culture to make good on his ideas. Chevy doesn't.

Hey nice video. Seems like you know this car pretty well. I have an 06 cobalt SS S/C and replaced the fuel lines after it sat for a while and lines rusted. I don't have a gauge to test fuel pressure, but I do get gas spraying out when I depress the needle at the test port on the fuel rail. After charing up the battery I can't get the engine to crank at all. It won't even try. I have a check engine light on. I connected an cheap amazon OBD-2 sensor that I've used successfully many times in the past. It only reads ECM codes, and finds none. So I'm guessing it's a PCM code. Can you make any suggestions as to what the issue might be? or what I can look into? Any help would be super appreciated.

I thought the self contained oil filter was one of the 10 wonders of the world. Chevy says nope...
