I have family in Canada and I like the vibe. Television over there is actually worth watching. They aren't trying to scare the wits out of you all the time. Laughter is good medicine and their stuff is funny without being so crude or leaving you feeling dirty.

Sad but thinks for the info. I am suffering same fate with a Cobalt and it can be many different things. Bought mine used, rebuilt, so crap shoot. Chevy engineers Union have not pride in putting together something good. Planned Obsolescent. Cost in all the work done would be helpful.

This saved me a whole tow. Swapping the fan fuse for the starter worked like a charm. 10 bucks later with a repair and a spare and I’m not spending money for a tow. Thank you so much!

It is times like these where the men are separated from the boys. Pregnant wives and newborns are stressful times and the point where the boys split, thus there are so many single mothers in this world. Chin-up, thick skin, and keep your nose to the grind stone. You'll get through it. Good job Brian the world needs more men/dads like you.

LOL! I'm thinking it, I'm just trying to keep it clean. I was raised orthodox Mormon and I can lean on my clean language upbringing when necessary. I've had SEVERAL people say "I love how I can watch your stuff with my kids and not worry about dirty language." I can see the value to that.

It is. It also makes a mess in the solenoid behind the motor too. That caused a lot of the P0651 side of the problem with the 5v reference wire that controls the throttle and CKP sensor.

Hello Brian, really hoping you can possibly shed some light on something. I'm trying to figure out how the p0651 is related to the air pump. I have a 2007 cobalt 2.2 with the reduced power, engine disabled p0651 and p2430. I have ecm pinouts and wiring diagrams and I dont see how they are related. I have confirmed I have no 5 volts on the reference 2 circuit thr car was starting for a while but would run like crap misfiring etc. Now its completely locked out. I had condemned the ecm for not having 5 volt reference output but your video threw a wrench in my thoughts. Thanks for any help you may give.

I have a key trouble something like that with my car. I'm still able to get it to turn from the off position after a few tries, and I've just had it parked for the last year. putting it back on the road soon, I'll have to get that fixed. there is at least one recall for the key ignition. on my car, I just found the engine fuse box is corroded. pulled the starter relay and one terminal broke off in the socket. what fun. but I still do like my cobalt, and will still be your friend.

Last year there was a recall on the chevy cobalts. The dealer changed the starter key hole for free. There has been accidental fatalities because the pins in the key hole were bad. the car would turn off on the road. If you have not done this go to a chevy dealer.

Bought one new in 08 still driving in 2020. Original battery lasted 12yrs. All in all done very little to it that you wouldn’t do to any other car. Mine doesn’t have the air pump. BTW I love the oil cartridge located on top. I find it very easy to get to. Heck I’ve a lot easier than crawling underneath. 11/4” socket and it’s out in secs with no mess at all. Just like old tractors. One thing that is coming to light on drive ability issues is grounds. The way they did the grounds aren’t holding up. Easy thing to overlook. But I’m at 225 mi and it still drives like new.

We all have those days. You are only human. Personally I love hearing your rants because the things you complain are worth complaining about. Your personality isn't such that you complain for no reason, so when you complain it's good to pay attention. That's my thought on your personality anyway. Hope you feel better soon too. Being sick makes it a lot easier to get agitated so keep that in mind when dealing with friends and family.

I had always thought that the air pump offered nothing except better emissions tailpipe testing at cold startup. But I guess the water in the device leaked into the intake. That has to be a design flaw, condensation shouldn't form there....

As a Cobalt owner, I take no offense whatsoever to your Cobalt bashing. Let me make a long story short, My 2008 was very troublesome. The fact that I am a mechanic myself and a motor head is why that car is still around. Just about all my family and friends have come to the consensus that if that car were owned by anyone else, it would probably be in the junkyard right now. 2008 was probably the worst year for the Cobalt; I used to work for GM and I dealt with more 2008's then any other.

+suburbanator91 what is your opinion on the 2009...i recently bought a 2009...i saw a lot of people had complaints from 2004-2007 i figured the 2009 wouldve been better...i heard about all the recalls they had on the cobalt...and i figured after 6 years making the same car chevy mightve learned a thing or 2!
@suburbanator91
@suburbanator91 9 жыл бұрын
+RIPing PUMA, IF! the Chevy Cobalt is what you have to have, shoot for 2009 or 2010; they tend to be the better ones. Based on service records, 2008 was the worst years for the Cobalt/ G5. The 2005-2007 tends to fair just a bit better. Any Cobalt is a real hit and miss. One of the many things that killed the Cobalt was their inconstancy in their quality; one Cobalt in the line could come out as a nice solid trouble free car for 200K miles, but literally the one behind it was you typical Friday nighter reliving the quality problem's of the 1970's (Such as my [brand-new] Cobalt that had me walking after not even owning it for 2 weeks). RIPing PUMA, I can go on and on here and you are not the only one asking me this; I don't think you want an essay from me either. When I have some time, I will make a video on this topic.

Reconnected terminals after couple of hours and there's no crank, sound of fuel pump .... any suggestions on what I should check out?

the key no going foward brian there is a bullient out on it, i work for GM replace 2-3 ignition cylinders a month, if the dealer will not do it under some warrenty for special pollacy then all u do is remove the 3 7mm bolts under the trim behind the steering wheel, remove trim, put key in run position, on top u see 2 holes use a pick push down in the hole wiggle around till u push down the stopper and it slides right out, btw if he waits till it wont turn anymore u gotta drill it out...

I have the same problem with my (Air Pump) fuse being blown and I replaced it with a new 40amp fuse. Then it blew again. Did a DTC check at O''Reillys and came up with codes P0411, 2430, 2431, 2432, 2433. Does this sound like I have a bad (air pump) or a bad (secondary air injection sensor)?

Check your 5 volt reference wire busses. If you don't have that, your TPS, CKP, and many other input/feedback circuits will be worthless. It's a POLO! without a MARCO! It's just confusion.

If your standing in front of that Cobalt, with your legs touching the bumper, in the underhood fuse box, the very bottom row of relays, touch the middle relay, the one I need is the next one straight up from that relay...its up & to the left of the relay you had your relay tester in. So, the 11-o-clock position from your relay tester..what is that relay??????? I think it says 2752 but, what is the rest of the numbers on that relay?

THANK YOU! I dont think I would have even known where to look for a very strange but similar issue with my 07 cobalt suddenly refusing to start (always after driving it 30+ mins, so when I was out and thus stuck somewhere). It was reading out code 2430, but no others, before the starting issues, and then after being towed to a shop and sitting for a few days over new years wknd, started up again miraculously monday AM before shitting the bed again tues night...I think based on your video that it may have something to do with the air pump collective water and drying out, or something of that nature preventing the 5V ref for the car to start (batt is fine). Since it is an odd issue, I dont think it would be too easy for most shops to diagnose and am going to check a few parts/fuses myself first to narrow it down and hopefully fix whatever glitch seems to be causing the problems, as the car runs fine besides this starting issue. I want to try to trip the starter directly, and rule out the ignition switch, starter or air pump as problem sources...I have already reset the ECM a couple of times, do I need to do a relearn after each one (for cycles or keys?) it started up 2 days after the first reset monday morning (and for like 10 times after that)...

You saw a lot of GM stuff in the early Saturn line, then Saturn stuff in the GM line- particularly Pontiac before they killed Pontiac and Saturn. I see some strategy in that. Unfortunately this lame duck late year Saturn influence made it over into the cheap Chevy lines. Badges mean nothing these days when describing quality. The dollar is dieing hard. Everything is being outsourced to temporarily prop up our standard of living. We need to produce here and reign in the imperialism feathers.

Hey my friend I have a 2007 Pontiac G5 when you turn the key to the on position all I get now is the security system lock light. In the past when it would let you start the vehicle, all the dummy lights would come on first and then you can proceed and crank vehicle and everything would be fine then it started doing this thing where every 6th or 7th start , just the security light would come on and none of the other lights, accept the message in the message center "service airbag" and you cannot manipulate that message, change it or nothing. Whenever it's in this stage it just won't start. Now Ive replaced the starter ,battery ,starter solenoid, alternator ,ignition lock cylinder, everything I could think of has all been replaced .what am I dealing with in dire need of your expertise thanks.

An early reply would be very helpful.... on the passenger side of the vehicle I had to cut out the carpet because an odor was starting to form because of water, I don't know how or where that came from. Second thing is now my starter is not working and we replaced it here at home but I am very confused with the wiring that has to be made when connecting the starter. Please help me soon

Ricardo A. Water problems on passenger side is because of dirty cabin filter. Open glove box all the way. Best to replace it for 10-20 dollars or clean and spray febreeze on it. But you’ll need to vacuum out where the filter sits. The drain hole is clogged with debris like leaves and dirt. Hope this helps someone

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! I swapped an engine from a 2.0 malibu/no air inj into another malibu w/ air inj. So it was deleted respectively. Now i have the whole car apart chasing communication errors for a no crank condition. Alot of U codes. Unplugged vcim and got my pcm back online but still no tcm. Do you think this could be my oversight??

Hey Brian, I doubt that you still have that Black Cobalt (girl's car) in your shop but, maybe you can help me by reviewing your footage? I have a 07 Pontiac G5 & its missing a relay in the underhood fuse box! Its for the cooling fan, its the only 5 pin relay, for the spot that says, "Cool fan"... then there is cool fan 1 & 2 but, its the one thats only marked "cool fan" & its the 5 pin. .If u go to the bottom. Of the fuse box, then touch the MIDDLE relay along the bottom row, THEN GO UP TO THE NEXT RELAY STRAIGHT UP???? WHAT IS THE NUMBERS ON THAT RELAY? ITS UP & TO THE LEFT OF THE "CRANK" RELAY. ON THAT CAR THAT YOUR WORKING ON, THE FUSE BOX SAYS COOL FAN & 3 OTHER WORDS THAT I CANNOT MAKE OUT. The dealer can't help me, trust me, I've tried & tried. Then, all the ones in my local junk yard are allready missing all the relays.

When assigning blame, you sometimes have to question how much control that the actual engineers/designers have. For example, in the electronics world, the actual engineers will often create a product full of fail-safes and quality-ensuring designs. But then that product gets shipped to a manufacturer, usually in China, where it's chipped away at, and literally has components removed to see how much cost they can reduce in manufacturing while still making the product (mostly) work as intended.

Glad I bought a Hyundai Accent instead of a Cobalt. I had a friend who had a Northstar and needed to replace the alternator which meant he needed to remove the air pump, he had an old drunk TRY to replace the alternator and broke the air pump on the guy and that air pump isn't cheap

Lol yeah you gotta have a extra short 24mm with a swivel to take that oil filter off, and remove the socket before you unscrew it to much where it won't have the clearance to come off, lol

Some time around 2003 someone came on board in the computer/electronics dept that really stirred things up and did some damage to their reputation. I'm not going to name names, but their heart and work belong at Volkswagen. I say that, because Volkswagen has the means and culture to make good on his ideas. Chevy doesn't.

Hey nice video. Seems like you know this car pretty well. I have an 06 cobalt SS S/C and replaced the fuel lines after it sat for a while and lines rusted. I don't have a gauge to test fuel pressure, but I do get gas spraying out when I depress the needle at the test port on the fuel rail. After charing up the battery I can't get the engine to crank at all. It won't even try. I have a check engine light on. I connected an cheap amazon OBD-2 sensor that I've used successfully many times in the past. It only reads ECM codes, and finds none. So I'm guessing it's a PCM code. Can you make any suggestions as to what the issue might be? or what I can look into? Any help would be super appreciated.
