Since I cleaned my pcv orifice in my intake manifold I barely get any moisturizer buildup in the can anymore. I almost don’t even need it anymore. But yes it’s sad the number of people that had to put these on their equinox and terrains. Vehicles shouldn’t require diy alterations to remain reliable. Thanks for watching. if you have this vehicle.. drill out your PCV valve hole. its a few steps that will make that engine rock solid.. and it will also stop puking oil and water out of that tube.. its a MUST if you own this ...

Thanks for watching. I wouldn’t go drilling out the hole. A simple pick and parts cleaner works great. But leave the hole original size. I never drilled mine out and it’s running great. Because the engine mounts allow the engine to sway back and forth slightly, the hose should be cut 1/2 inch longer (or even looped) so that the engine isn't constantly stretching the hose on each revolution. This will also prevent vibration.

Should the can be mounted lower? So that the tube coming from the valve cover slopes down? My understanding is that moisture in the OE U-shaped tube would freeze because it sits in the low spot. Frozen is when the rear seal blows. Thoughts?
@BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 2 жыл бұрын
The issue with the original u shape hose is that the moisture needed to travel upwards in that bend. Making moisture collect in that pre bend spot. As for this install even though it may be a slight incline there is enough suction to pull the moisture through the hose and it drops right into the can. I had 1 inch moisture in the can after only a month so it’s working perfectly. And the throttle body is still squeaky clean. However if you feel more comfortable mounting it lower, a good spot is the air box (on the dirty side of the filter) and run the bolts in there. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe

I need to do this to my wife's Terrain. What size aftermarket hose did you use instead of the one that came with the catch can? Maybe, add it to the description, too? Also, how low should you install the can to the engine compartment for it to be as effective as possible?

After this video was shot I switched the hoses. I used 3/8” ID hose for both inlet and outlet. The height of install location doesn’t really matter as it works on vacuum. Moisture will be drawn in regardless of elevation. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

Were you getting any emissions codes prior to doing this? I'm getting a catalytic code 0420 but I see there is alot of carbon on the intake that I think is causing the code. It came from the leaking sludge above. I'm hoping doing this will work to solve my problem. I also added a vented oil cap.
@BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 2 жыл бұрын
I did not have any codes. I did this as a preventative measure. The intakes are nasty on these things. Mine was thick with carbon. All gdi engines are like that. This will definitely clean up the air going from the valve cover back to the intake by removing oil vapors. But as for the P0402 cat code, i can’t see a catch can fixing that code, however it may help prevent a future code. Ps did you mean you got a vented oil cap? Thanks for watching. @@BillOfAllTrades2016 Yes, I meant oil cap. I was tired when I commented. Someone said on a forum that carbon build up can cause that code to pop because of emissions quality, that's why I asked. Are those sheet metal screws used to mount the bracket to the car? I have a 2011 Equinox and the frame area on my car looks a tad different then yours. There's a metal bracket that runs underneath the area you mounted yours to , so I would not be able to get behind the frame to attach any nuts to bolts that may be used, That is why I asked about sheet metal screws as they would just cinch the oil cap bracket to the frame of the car.
@BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 Жыл бұрын
I used the screws the cam came with. But Sheet metal screws would work easier. Just drill a pilot hole in the frame and screw in and you will be good. The frame has a hole in the bottom that I reached my finger in to hold the nut while tightening the bolt. As hindsight is 20/20 I wish I thought to buy some 10 cent self tapping screws lol. With moisture on the oil filler cap I found that cleaning the pcv orifice in the intake manifold helped with that issue. Here is the link for that process: kzbin.info/www/bejne/marSe2NomKaEn8k Remember also that there will always be moisture on the cap in winter. That’s unavoidable. The waxy brown mayonnaise looking stuff on the cap during warm weather is usually a clogged pcv system. Before installing my catch can my air box would always have a lot of water in it. After installing my catch can I no longer had moisture in my air box. It would all collect in the can instead. After cleaning the pcv orifice it reduce the amount of moisture in the catch can to less than 50%. Hope all this is the info you were looking for. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

I personally thought that is overkill. A lot of extra install time. More possibilities for error. My theory was start simple with the can attached to the pcv line and see how it goes, and I could switch to the oil cap method if need be. Personally in my vehicle the simple pcv method is very successful. Keeps things running the way should. No issues to report so far. Keeps things clean, and catches a ton during the winter. Feel along the bottom edge. You will come across a hole there. Drill your holes. Then I used a dap of superglue to my finger, put the nut on it and reached in. Then put your bolt in the pilot hole and feel for it on the other side with the nut. Screw it in and the pull your finger and the nut will peel off. An easier way I saw after though is to remove the air filter, drill pilot holes in the bottom half of the box and bolt it on there. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe

@@BillOfAllTrades2016 oblong cylinders result in a thrown rod or Code P2279 is a code indicating that the ECM is detecting that the engine has too much air entering and sees this as a vacuum leak. An engine running with too much air will run lean and cause the engine to run rough and stall at low engine speeds. @BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 2 жыл бұрын
I so far have had no cons. So far it’s all pros for me. The cap out coming out of the valve cover usually gets reburned. But the catch can collects it. I cleaned my throttle body a year ago and it is still clean now because the catch can collects all the dirty stuff. In the winter I have less moisture on the oil filler cap compared to before the install. And if you think of it you will also be saving your catalytic converter because usually the vapor is burnt and sent out the exhaust but with a catch can it’s just clean air entering the throttle body. Also makes your emissions a bit cleaner.

Hey man so the can I got isnt an actual baffled design but uses the metal sponge. Has your sponge fallen apart? I only use a true baffled design that doesn’t require the sponge on my car but for the equinox since it’s not turbo it should be ok to use this one. Do you know the size of ID of the hose you used for the barb on the valve cover?
@BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 2 жыл бұрын
Mine is steel wool like the wiry type. It is still intact. As for the I’d for the hose to the valve cover I actually went down a size after that video. The video I had 1/2 inch but it developed a leak because it was a bit big. So I went to 3/8. If you watch my video where I show cleaning my AEM filter you will see the hose is now orange. That is 3/8 ID hose for all connections. With that small you need to boil water and take the hot pot out with you to the car. Hold the hose end in the hot water to soften for about 30 seconds. Then stick it on the fitting or valve cover barb. When it cools it will be super tight, it will form the shape of the fitting and it will stiffen back up. Best way to make a seal.

In your warm climate I would not install one. It won’t make a difference. You should make sure the pcv orifice is clean in the intake manifold as I do in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/marSe2NomKaEn8k After that the only time I get any moisture is when the weather drops to around 0 Celsius. In the summer I never have any liquid in the catch can. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

@BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 14 күн бұрын
You will need 3/8” inner diameter hose. When you install the hose it will be very tight. What I did was boil a pot of water, bring the hot water outside, hold the end of the hose in the boiling water for about 30 seconds to soften it, then while it’s still hot push it over the fittings. When the hose cools down it will be formed tightly around the fitting and make a superb seal. Add the gear clamp for added insurance. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

I bought the catch can on Amazon. This model isn’t available anymore. But they have similar ones from evil energy sold on Amazon. They have an option of a bolt or a filter on the top. Just make sure not to use the filter. Use the bolt. The hose I used had to be replaced because it was cheap. You can buy clear water hose or even air hose for air compressors. I have air hose on mine now. You want hose that has a firm structure. So go to your local hardware stores and squeeze the hose to make sure it’s not too soft. Look for hose that is 3/8 inch inner diameter. It will be tight to fit so I just boil water and bring it outside and hold the hose in the hot water to soften it. Then slide it onto the fitting. When it cools it will be a perfect seal. Also where I showed cutting the plastic fitting on the air box, I advise to leave about 4 inches of the original pcv hose attached. I had to buy a new fitting to fix my mistake. Don’t cut as close as I did. Leaving extra attached to the fitting will ensure it stays on better. Buy at least 5-6 feet of hose as it may need replacement very couple years. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe

You can't do something like this for the dirty side, since the dirty side is just a small set of orifices inside the body of the intake manifold. You could only clean the inside of the intake manifold to prevent it from clogging...but another preventative measure would be ignore the oil life indicator, and just do frequent oil and filter changes, like every 3000-4000 miles with synthetic oil only. Sure, it means you are spending more on oil changes, but that is cheap compared to a blown main seal from the dirty PVC orifice clogging.

So I'm in the exact same situation. I have the exact same catch can with the exact same vehicle. How did you mount it in there? That steel is 2-ply thick and you can't get in from the backside to mount the nuts. And then there's the other complication even if you get the bracket on to the vehicle frame, there's such little space to get the can reattached to the bracket using the short screws. What order did you do it in?
@BillOfAllTrades2016
@BillOfAllTrades2016 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. So if you feel under that 2 ply are there is a toonie sized hole. I drilled the mount holes there and I had a dab of glue on my finger tip with the bolt so when I reached in the hole it would stay on. Then when it screwed in it would break free from my finger. I have seen it screwed into the bottom half of the air box before. You can open up your air box, take your filter out and drill a hole in the side. Then that way you have easy access to both sides of the bolt and nut. Once the bracket is attached you will need to take me an Allen key and cut most of the end off except 2 mm roughly. That way you can squeeze the Allen key in that narrow area between the mounting point and the lid.

The hoses from your catch can look to be connected to the "clean" side,. I've seen other videos here that connect one hose to the oil cap i.e dirty side connection and then add an AOS and connect one hose the air box. So it looks like that have two side by side filter systems one for the clean side and the other to the dirty side. Any comment on a duel filtration system is appreciated, I've also seen a video here that has a T line connected to the brake booster vacuum line as well. Looks like many options based on different videos here and confusing as if a clean side and or a dirty side catch can system(s) are needed.

Oil vapors mixed with gas vapors and moisture comes out of the valve cover. All that liquid gets sent back into the engine to be burnt with the regular fuel and air mixture. In colder temperatures the moisture builds up fast and sits in the original black tube and freezes. This can basically suffocate the valve cover and it builds up pressure then you may blow a rear main seal and your oil will leak out. That’s a very costly repair. This can allows the moisture to escape the valve cover and travel through the tube and it drips into the cup below. Then the air continues through the second hose clean and dry. So the air passage is always open and will never freeze. Here is a link to a video where I show what it collects: Chevy Equinox Oil Catch Can 1000km Update kzbin.info/www/bejne/rILdqmudh5WVeMk All that liquid goes back through the throttle body and dirties it up as well. This keeps the throttle body clean. Thanks for watching hope this helps. Please like and subscribe
