Chevy's 1991 to 2001 medium duty 3500HD truck Specs

Between 1991 and 2001, Chevrolet produced the 3500HD medium duty truck with a 15,000 pound Max Gross Vehicle Weight. It is a whole different truck than the 3500HD's of today. In this video I go over some of the specifications that I have found from the resources listed in this description area.

They have a certain style that attract some people, me included. I was at a auto salvage yard a few days ago and they had three of these. Everyone of them was an old bucket truck. One of them looked to be in good shape too.

2001-2002 you could actually get the 8.1 Vortec with an Allison in one of these. I don’t think these ever got Duramax power in them however.

I'd love to have an Allison transmission but the PTO that runs the hydraulic pump is driven from the manual transmission so I can't change that without a huge cost. Thanks.

I caught on to the beauty of these about 8 years ago and have been buying them up win I see them cheap. I have a 94 and a 96 and should have a 2000 by the end of this week. I am also trying to get a 97 but haven't secured it yet.

That's awesome. I'm enjoying mine so far but the hydraulic clutch gets weak when the engine bay gets hot. Have you had any issues with that?

Janesville is closed up I think for auto assembly. Interesting how they ran it short . My 02 was from Pontiac east Michigan.

Yea I found that interesting. The early models were built in Detroit, but they moved the manufacturing to Janesville. My understanding is GM discontinued this "3500HD" for the C4500 series starting in 2002. It's been fun finding information about this truck.

I'm getting there. I like everything to work so I continue to modify, fix and repair. The poor Jeep has become secondary now. But it's been running good. In fact, IDGAXJ channel (Joel) and another KZbinr are going camping next week near the TN and NC border. That should be fun.

That's a good looking truck . I've got a question and i hope you can help where can i find a shop Manuel for the truck i have a 2001 3500HD it is an old AT&T bucket truck and i'm having fuel problems my charcoal canister keep getting flooded with gas not sure what to do it has the 2 tank set up where the PCM uses both floats to give the correct gas at the gauge thanks for any help you can give

Not knowing any of the history of the truck I have to start with a basic question. Do you have a engine code, P0456 or a 441? The most common cause of this is overfilling your fuel tank. The easiest way to confirm this might be the issue is to drain your canister and drive the truck with the tanks no more than half full. If the canister remains empty you have the answer. Beyond that I really have no clue as I have never came across this problem. I hope this helps.

I've been trying to find one of long wheel base trucks but they are so hard to find here in central Arkansas . All I really want is a rolling chassis , no cab , bed , engine or transmission . Great video and hard to find information .

Oh man, it's been fun. I moved the tractor once so far and I took the blue Corvette to a local car show with a "For sale" sign on it. That kind of backfired because as I was talking to people with an interest they asked "Why is on a rollback, does it run"?

It has been fun finding all the uses that people have come up with for this truck. I've seen only a very few p for sale around here and I keep an eye out for a parts truck but that's been a challenge. Luckily I don't need many more parts.

@@wyattoneable -- My brother has a 2021 GMC Sierra AT4-HD with a gas 6.6L engine. He loves it...but, he does a lot of heavy towing and is in Michigan (with bad roads, really bad roads). For me, I went with the "Corvette" engine size GMC Sierra AT4 with the 6.2L gas. It is one QUICK pickup truck...esp running 94-octane. I don't need the HD (2,500 or 3,500) at this time...but, they sure are nice!

This was GM’s competitor to the “OBS” F-Super Duty cab and chassis that Ford built up until 1997 I believe. Both had 15,000 GVWR’s and were essentially early 4500/5500 series trucks that everyone is familiar with today. I don’t believe Dodge/RAM started offering anything in this medium duty weight class until 2010.

I had a '95 short wheel base, flatbed, was a great truck, 454 and automatic, id like another one, wound up putting almost 300,000 miles on it.

That's a beauty! I have a 2000 GMC C3500HD with the 4L80E auto trans and the 7.4 Vortec (sadly, 2000 was the last year for the 454). It's the short wheelbase truck and I bought it used for $4,500. I'm building an 8ft. flatbed to replace the 10ft. service bed it came with. I bought the truck from a guy who bought it at a government auction. The truck has 47,000 original miles on it! It belonged to the small mountain-top town of Big Bear Lake, CA and it was used for road maintenance (the bed is covered in tar!). I love that truck.
