Excellent! I knew this was possible without pulling the tranny all the way. I'm in the middle of doing mine. Pulling the transmission back tomorrow. Got all the bell housing bolts off along with the torque converter bolts and cross member this afternoon. Just need to pull the lines and im ready to push it back. Thanks for the video. 👍
@artysmotorsports3 жыл бұрын
Be careful. The trans will want to rotate clockwise when you pull it away from the engine. 👌
@WesProphecy20323 жыл бұрын
@@artysmotorsports ok thanks. I will figure a way to strap it to the jack plate before pulling it back. I'm just using a modified floor jack but built a large resting plate out of a 2x8. I will probably pull down the trans crossmember down on one side until i clear the single center stud then put the member back up to have more stability.
@WesProphecy20323 жыл бұрын
@@artysmotorsports Your tip helped. I had a dog chain hooked up to the side pan lip and screwed that to the 2x8 plate. I saw it rotate a hair before the chain tensioned up. Got it pulled back enough without even disconnecting the lines. I knew they would have enough play. 👍

I have a 2005 Yukon 5.3L 4x4. Looks exactly the same. I may have a very slow rear main leak. I just got it and am watching it now after a fresh oil change. Has 216,000 miles on it. Seems to run great though. 3 questions: 1. Was there a cover on your inspection hole that shows the bottom of the flex plate? Mine does not have a cover of any type. I can see the bottom of the flex plate. 2. I have a pair of ramps that raises vehicles back or front tires by about 12". Would that be helpful to use for this job? 3. So the rear seal has two parts? A shaft seal, plus a shaft seal cover gasket?
@artysmotorsports10 ай бұрын
I don't remember if I had an inspection cover. I've seen a rubber or metal one on a few of these. Ramps may depend on the height of your yukon mine seemed to be slightly higher in the rear so the jack stands basically leveled it. Yes the rear main seal cover has a gasket and the rear main seal is installed on the cover so technically two parts.
@thesetruths140410 ай бұрын
@artysmotorsports i didn't notice a gasket at the bottom of the plate. Is it just metal to metal across the bottom? It's not supposed to hold oil I assume, if it's leaking from the rear main, right? More or less just a dust cover?
@thesetruths140410 ай бұрын
@artysmotorsports also, I think mine is leaking from the oil cooler line mounting point. There is a gasket there that's known to leak down, and ends up on the filter and even the back and bottom area were the inspection hole is...that general area. I had oil on my filter, but it was tight.
@artysmotorsports10 ай бұрын
@thesetruths1404 the bottom side shares the oil pan gasket. I've seen some people run a small amount of oil resistant rtv to help prevent leaks.
@thesetruths140410 ай бұрын
@artysmotorsports so by design, if the plate cover seal and oil pan gasket don't leak, oil could build up in that small area if the round main seal is leaking?
