As an American, there's always a 25% chance the teacher will ask you for a piece 😂 The issue is those nasty folk putting gum under the desk, that the janitor has to scrape off 😢. One of our teachers made a "chewy-trash" and let us have a movie day / some reward when we put 250 pieces into it. Most were paper balls, but you know, the attempt was there.

As a British high school student, I can confirm this 100%. One time my friend took a pen out of her blazer pocket and a gum wrapper fell out of her pocket and the teacher started freaking out. I knew that she didn’t chew any gum at school because I was with her the entire day so it was clearly from the day before or something. The teacher didn’t believe her, and gave her two detentions just for having a gum wrapper in her pocket, because the teacher didn’t believe her that she didn’t have any at school.

I’m British and once someone in my class was messing around with someone behind him when he leaned backwards and at least 30 skittles fell out his pocket and flew all over the floor. He then leaned back to pick them up and another 20 fell out. It was funny at the moment and luckily for him we have probably one of the nicest teachers in Britain and he was laughing too. The other guy still had to pick them all up tho and he might have got a detention but I can’t remember

In my US school (middle) if you were caught chewing gum you had to spend recess scraping off the gum from the bottom of the cafeteria tables. So they'd cheat and go around asking kids for chewed gum to make it look like they did more work then they had.
