I actually saw some Vewlix arcades for the first time at an arcade place I can hop the train to. They put the current trendy arcade fighting games on them but there's also one with some older-era games in a multigame setup of sorts (definitely was not a Pandora's Box, though). All Japanese. Pretty neat to see a video with one in action.
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
I love seeing that! I've only seen them in the wild at a place called "Round1" which was surprising since they're a bowling toy crane amusement center. I hope to see more "modern" arcade releases on commercial cabs like that. One can hope. Thanks so much for checking out the video! I hope it helped. If there's anything else I can make videos about please let me know. I'll try and deliver as long as it's something I have access to and knowledge of.

@@TheLivingArcade I don't really know what I'd suggest to arcade enthusiasts. I have no DIY skill myself so I wouldn't dare suggest something in that field. The best I've done so far is going into some specifics regarding which games run like junk on a Pandora's Box setup and the likely reasons why, and I don't have any of the new "3D/Saga" models or the Pandory Tools. Maybe sometime I'll think about making a multigame dedicated to unfinished game protos. Yeah, that's a weird idea, isn't it? Hahaha.

I really like the sit down style, as at my age, I would never want to stand up at an arcade anymore. I’ve been thinking about getting one of these for a while but curious about adding a trackball and or spinner for other games. It doesn’t look like there’s much room for those on the control panel.
@TheLivingArcade Жыл бұрын
Yeah the sit down style is def. the way to go! Be aware that not all of them have the control panel that comes out far enough in a way that allows your legs to fit comfortably in there and not hunch over. That's why I like the chewlix style so much the control panel sticks out way further. It doesn't have enough room for trackballs and such but I'm going to make a separate trackball and spinner controller that can fit on my lap and I can plug it in to that USB panel mount quickly. Check out www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/2-player-sit-down-arcade-cabinet-flat-pack-kit-black.html?setCurrencyId=3 For another idea. Wow 👌 your amazing bro. I just want to ask you about the Chewlix compatibility with the classic jamma pcb, you see .... my father used to own a small restaurant with some arcade machines. Most of the old wooden arcade cabinet are either corroded or rusted, but i managed to salvage the pcb boards ( MJ moonwalk, TMNT and konami's X-MEN), and i was planning to use Chewlix if its can read the jamma boards.
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I hope it gave you some ideas. Good on you for saving those boards! I had to think about this one for a min. The biggest issue is the chewlix uses a "modern" HDMI LCD display. Those boards are designed to output 15kHz RGB or VGA to a CRT display. Mine also has VGA inputs but everything is in Chinese. I have no way to look up the model number to see if the display can handle the output from those boards. They output at a lower res then most "modern" displays can accept. Additionally the menu system is in chinese so I have no way of making any adjustments in the settings menu. Chewlixes aren't standardized either, there's no telling exactly what display yours will come with when you source one. There are boards out there that can convert jamma to hdmi. Here's a link to give you some ideas. www.arcadexpress.com/en/60-video-converters After converting the video you may want to consider a scanline generator. The raw pixel output doesn't look like what you remember seeing on a true CRT with scanlines. (That's why I use the CRT Shaders in retroarch to give it that look) Look into the "OSSC Scart upscaler" and the "framemeister" as well. A BIG THING TO be aware of is that technically the chewlixes use a chinese "jamma" harness known as a "chamma" it looks the same but wired differently see this article here. www.arcaderepairtips.com/2021/03/16/getting-familiar-with-the-chamma-standard/ Mine was wired incorrectly from the "factory" punch and kick buttons were all mixed up hence why I just ripped it all out of there! There are chamma to jamma adapters available assuming yours is wired correctly. If you go that rout, make sure you follow the wires to insure it is wired correctly to the "chamma" standard. Plenty of people have had great success with them. Personally, I haven't used any of these methods because I can't afford the costs. So please research and don't take what I've said as gospel, this is just to point you in the right direction. If you could get your hands on an "astro city" or "egret" candy cab you wouldn't need such things since those do have CRT's and I believe are already wired to the jamma standard but they're way heavier and in very high demand! Or you may find a non working jamma arcade machine with a good CRT on the used market to put those boards in. There's also jamma switchers out there. They allow for multiple jamma boards to be in the same cab and you can switch between them with a knob. It's a lot! Don't let it discourage you. It's a fun journey with lots of learning. To me that's where the fun really is in all this. Also look into the MISTER FPGA or consider what I did with a gaming PC and emulation. I hope this helps and good luck!

Damn, subbed. Can u do a video on how u bypassed the dodgy china ground and used your own power strip?
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I'll see if I can make a quick short covering that part more in detail. I'm not sure if I can totally re-create it because I already tossed the Chinese plug that was attached to the DC power supply. But in the meantime if you go to 01:44 in the video you can see a square shaped hole just beneath my hand as I'm plugging stuff in. There's a little slide cover held in with 4 screws on the right rear of the cab. I removed that plate and there is an access hole big enough to feed the power cable from the power strip through. I just bought a power strip with a really long cord and feed it out through the hole and plugged everything into the power strip and I left all the factory wiring in there unused including that little Chinese duplex. It was faster then tracing it all down and rewiring. The power strip is just sitting inside towards the back. I did take a leap of faith on the monitor though! Everything was in chinese and I couldn't verify the model number to confirm if it would accept U.S. 120v. Granted most do these days but I did risk frying it so be aware. The DC power supply has screw terminals for everything. I just cut the end off a us cord and stripped the ends and screwed them down on to the correct terminals. It's just powering the coin mech and the amplifier. They could both be powered with "wall wart" DC plugs plugged in to the power strip. But it was already there so I used it. I hope this makes sense. If not let me know.

@TheLivingArcade Жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the bang pow graphic one. I have seen people remove all the plastic trim pieces and vinyl wrap them in different colors. It does take some skill with a heat gun to get the vinyl to conform to all the corners though. There are some private sales that pop up in the chewlix FB group. And they do bulk group buys (filling up an entire shipping container) once or twice a year to save on shipping. But the shipping is still expensive. A grand is a pretty good price but tough if you don't like the look. You might spend more trying to make it look the way you want. Keep an eye out on the FB group. Hey Boss! Consider me inspired, I just signed the order papers today on two Chewies! I seriously appreciate this video, your budget upgrades and the beautiful personal style you achieved are both fantastic. One thing I'm curious about though is Equalizer APO, how do you have yours set up to improve the audio output of your cab?
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on finding two of them! And thanks for watching! As for EQ APO on the surface it's just an equalizer and somehow it writes the changes to the sound driver so once it's set you don't need to open it unless you want to make changes. The speakers mine came with aren't that great so I just put on some different music and adjusted the EQ until it sounded good to me. But there's some groups online that do a lot more with it especially with surround sound. Lots of plugins too! You can really deep dive with it. Some people tune it so they can hear footsteps easier on FPS games online and what not. A lot of people have reported just installing it and not touching it still made things sound better. I don't think a lot of people know about it hence why I brought it up.

can you make a video inside of your cabinet, how did you connected the smart plug for Alexa, do you have a link where did you get it?
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
if you jump to 01:45 in the video you can see me plugging in a power strip. There's an access hole on the bottom right of the cab under my right hand. You can see the power strip cord and ethernet cable feeding through it. I plugged everything into that power strip inside the cab and ran the power strip cord through the hole out the back. I left all the factory wiring alone and unused. Then that is connected to a smart plug amzn.to/3VYPvOz The smart plug is just a glorified switch that I can operate with my voice or phone. That way I don't need to reach inside to turn it on. Most computers can be configured to boot up the moment they receive power. Everything inside is left on and the smart plug behaves like the on off switch. Let me know if this answers your question.

Obrigado! Yes I have seen your video! Impressive and inspiring! Recreating the chewlix in CNC is an amazing achievement! Steam controls is a nightmare! What USB encoders are you using? One thing I would do differently on mine is use an iPac or a USB encoder that supports more then one player so windows wouldn't swap player 1 and 2. A single USB cable and the players are hardcoded www.ultimarc.com/control-interfaces/i-pacs/i-pac2/ Or these (looks interesting) they have a jumper that hard codes it as player 1 or 2 so windows won't swap them. polycade.com/collections/all/products/neo-arcade-controller-board Check out steam big picture mode with no games running. In "big picture mode" you can navigate to the controls and set a "base profile" I map the controls just like the layout for retroarch (button assignments like this. retropie.org.uk/forum/assets/uploads/files/1489884205888-03-button-panel-design.jpeg This gives me a "standard" profile that usually works pretty consistently when steam try's to load profiles on top of that base profile. Kind of like re-maps. Some games have limited configuration settings. For those I use Joy2key. joytokey.net/en/ I just custom remap the controls to the keys that match the game settings. So it sees the controls as keyboard inputs. So it doesnt matter what wacky controller profile steam loads.Joy2key is configured to launch on startup and I've set it to detect which steam game is running and it automatically loads the keyboard remap. It's amazing! Let me know if any of this helps.

I have seen some variations of what they come with pre installed looking at what others have shared in the groups. But I don’t recall ever seeing the actual CPS kick harness included on any of them. I really doubt it. Also be aware that they have a “chamma” harness not a true jamma. A couple of pins are flopped around. I have seen chamma to jamma adapters being sold but I would double and triple check everything before dropping in a real board I cared about. Lastly I have no idea if the included 16:9 screen will work with a stock CPS board. Mine does have VGA but everything is in Chinese I couldn’t figure out the model number to find specs. It’s the “Razer seiren emote” it looks great on paper but it’s really hard to customize the animations. It took me hours to get that scrolling text to work. After some time with EQ and a combination of VSTs I have been able to get good sound out of it. It’s hard to recommend it unless your ready to spend a lot of time dialing in EQS and filters in addition to the animations

I can't figure out how to get the monitor out of my Chewlix there are no screws on the outside to release the vertical side cowling bars, I see screws on the inside, but not sure if those are the screws or not. Do you have any ideas that might help me out? Thanks!
@TheLivingArcade4 ай бұрын
This video does a good job but there's no close ups. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3uwiYCgZaunprc Basically there's a metal "collar" up where the curved marquee meets the colored plastic sides that go along the full length of the monitor. kind of adjacent to the top speaker. The metal collar that covers where those two pieces meet should have one screw. You remove that and the metal collar comes off it will reveal the screws that hold down the plastic side rails. There's another one next to the bottom speaker. Same thing and that should give you enough to remove the two side rails and you should see the rest. The whole monitor is attached to the metal frame around it and the whole thing should be able to slide out towards you from the front. It sits wedged on top the square speakers. This is assuming you have the same design as shown in my video and the one I linked. There has been a re-design recently where the whole front frame is one solid piece including the speakers and everything all surrounding the monitor. If you have that updated design then I don't know. Please let me know if this helps

@@TheLivingArcade I watched the video. It helped me figure it out. This one had studs welded to it and nuts screwed on behind the monitor so it wouldn't pop out. I had to take the monitor out to get to the nuts (the monitor barley comes out from behind, but it does). I am trying to put in gun for IR infared sensors in on both sides. There is barely enough room along side the monitor to put them there so I might have to put them in these colored bars I have been trying to remove. I will be drilling three holes right next to each other. Thanks for your help. I was stuck :)

Great work! Did I miss the part where you said how much the cab itself cost?
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! No you didn't miss it. I omitted that detail because I don't want to give the wrong impression on the pricing you will see in the wild. Lately, on average, I've been seeing $1200 to $1800 depending on the configuration. I did get really lucky finding mine. There are no full time US distributers for these. The shipping from China drives the cost up. If you ever find one locally for $1500 or less......Grab it! Just look closely because they've changed the design recently. Some like the new design some hate it. If I can get my hands on of those I'll do a comparison video.
@ngiants22302 жыл бұрын
Just curious but you mentioned several times about keeping the cost down, I'm wondering what was the cost of the cabinet before personalizing it? What was your budget you set to personalize it? And ultimately, did you stay within your budget or go over? What was the final total, cab included?
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I didn’t want to give a false impression about the initial price on the cab. I found a once in a lifetime deal for $950 locally. Normally they are 12-15 plus shipping. That’s why I didn’t say In The video. I didn’t really set a limit other then spending as little as possible without compromising the gameplay. Some of the parts I already had but factoring in those costs too I’m at 17 hundred for everything. Most people in the chewlix groups also change out the monitor, get custom control panels made, change out speakers, install a DAC, and put in brook UFBs which are $100 each! It’s an expensive hobby! Please let me know if this answers all your questions.

Does it still get stereo if you put the monitor in 'TATE' orientation?
@TheLivingArcade Жыл бұрын
I have not put it in TATE myself to say for sure but I see no reason it wouldn't the speakers stay in the same spot and you only flip the screen and the top and bottom panels get swapped to the sides.

hello i have a brook universal board how do you keep player 1 as default sometimes after reboots player 1 becomes player 2. im on PC win 11.
@TheLivingArcade2 жыл бұрын
I'm using two USB encoders (not brooks) and I experienced that as well. Windows seems to randomly assign player 1 and 2 on boot. What worked for me was I experimented with plugging one into the front USB and one into the back USB of the PC hoping they were on different USB host controllers at the motherboard level and I found a combination that worked. You can also try booting with only one connected then connect the other after and sometimes it will "remember" Some people install a inline USB (on/off) switch in between the player two USB and leave it off so that only player one is "connected." When windows boots it insures it's mapped to player one then they flip the switch for player 2 to be assigned by windows after it boots. See link blow for example but there's many variations but here's the idea amzn.to/3UGRxC0 There's also a really advanced way of finding which USB port is player two and setting a "delay" in windows that doesn't activate that port until after it's fully booted insuring it maps to player 2 but It looked pretty elaborate. I'd have to do some digging to find it if the above doesn't work. You can also switch to an encoder that has both players on one board mapped at the chip level but that's a tough one after spending the money on two brooks. But they will never have that issue since it's one USB connection. amzn.to/3GgZKIE www.arcaderenovations.com/ipac2-with-usb-cable.html Please let me know if this helps you. Thanks for watching!
