You are 100% correct about JCP having the upper hand with their story lines. I loved the WWF and many of my favorite childhood memories revolve around watching Hogan, Andre, Macho Man, etc. But, while the WWF went with more over the top and crazy story lines, JCP seemed real and made you feel as if those guys were putting their lives on the line every time they stepped in the ring. For instance, I was really worried that one of the Road Warriors would be killed during the Night of the Skywalkers match.

It's funny you mentioned Nikita Koloff being a possible influence on the Strong Mad voice, because I've typically considered Andre the Giant (particularly his performance in Princess Bride) as a possible influence. Not only were Sting and Gilbert & Steiner on the same team in terms of UWF alumni, but they were in the same faction (Hyatt-Hot Stuff International). Sting ended up leaving the faction to assist John Tatum who Gilbert and Missy Hyatt turned on, both in storyline and real life. Ah, pro wrestling! Also, Dusty didn't lose a retirement match to bring back The Midnight Rider gimmick. He was "suspended" for attacking Tully Blanchard and officials with a baseball bat after Tully struck Magnum TA. For Eddie Gilbert matches - The famous "Battle of New Orleans" Gilbert & Taylor vs Chris Adams & Sting. This Adams and Taylors tag team break up and pull in of Sting and Gilbert was arguably UWF's swan song feud. Good portion of this UWF stuff is on KZbin. After Rick Steiner turned face from the Varsity Club, Gilbert was his tag partner before Scott. See Clash of Champions 6 Ragin' Cajin, and Wrestle War 89. After the horsemen broke Eddie's nose, he challenged Flair and Barry Windom to a tag team match with a surprise partner. That partner was a returning Ricky Steamboat, and lead to that great Steamboat - Flair feud in '89.

17:45 - Dusty took the title off of Luger to set up the subsequent Luger-Flair program after they turned Lex face in the Bunkhouse Stampede. And honestly, Dusty needed a little pop at this point. Aside from his side gig with the Road Warriors, he'd been without a belt - or even a meaningful angle - for most of 1987. 19:20 - those might be ironic cheers. The Garvin Stomp was execrable. The Hands of Stone right cross had been played ad infinitum since the last Starrcade, and that's what got him over in 1987 for his title rub. The Stomp killed his heat.

Brian's Nikita Koloff interview sounds is an instant classic. Popped me hard.

I swear that Lex Luger making any sort of noise in the ring cracks me up every time I see it

I suggest watching WCW Fall Brawl 95, when Meng (Haku) enters the ring and starts beating on Luger it's freaking hilarious. His selling noises are legend.
