Amazing how Chiang Mai has changed since my girlfriend and I were there in 1977. We traveled from KL by train to Bangkok stopping off along the way at several places. Bussed it up overnight to Chiang Mai then longboat up the Kok river to Chiang Rai. Hiked up to the Burma border. Was a wonderful experience. Brought back some great memories. Cheers from Bali. Chiang Mai almost has some type of night market inception going on with some practically being inside others, right? 😆 I don't know if you guys ever gave the fish spa a try, but yes, it seriously tickles 😅🐟 Since this was filmed pre-pandemic, maybe we were there around the same time? Second biggest city always tend to be cheaper than the capital / biggest city and resort island. I watched your video in Indonesia, chiang mai its similar surabaya in term cost of living. You experienced surabaya its cheaper than jakarta and bali. Same thing in thailand.. chiang mai its cheaper than bangkok and phukett.. because less touristy than bangkok and phukett. The amount of times I walked over that footbridge to the market is countless. Stayed in the very quiet "suburb" of Wat Ket. Just two blocks form that bridge and restaurant for a couple of months. Absolutely beautiful place.

I love Chiang Mai.I go to Chiang Mai once a year. Many temples place around the old town. Temples was built by Lanna people. Lanna is the ancient kingdom. You don't miss to go to Wat Prathat Doi Suthep. You can see view of Chiang Mai city from there.

Great Vidz. CM is great place to visit or even Retire as it's very affordable with rustic feel couple with modern convenience like fast Internet. Those fried worms, bugs, locusts, scorpions etc etc make great snacks esp with beer. Khao Soi another of my Fav.

Merry Christmas Guys! I love your blog. It seems we have three things in common. First, we both live in Round Rock. For me, turn left at IKEA. Second, we both travel the world. In my case my travel is onboard a cruise ship. Finally, we both provide travel information for future or current travelers. You do it via your wonderful blogs while I present on-board presentation about upcoming ports of call and their unique sites. I have been a landlubber since the beginning of February. I love Chiang Mai! My favorite Thai dish is also khao soi. I think where you ate was a bit on the expensive side. My daughter and I would both get khao soi and a Coke and I never paid more than $5. I LOVE the markets, especially the Saturday and Sunday night markets. I never found Warorot, but I'll be back in a year and will definitely check it out, it looks fantastic!

We love CM too. Yes, the restaurant was more upscale and a good place to relax for us. CM was very cheap destination and great deals. AND it is charming and small easy to get everywhere. I know we will be back. Thanks for sharing

Wow, Renata, another wonderful video! I am saddened though - I was in Chiang Mai for almost a full week last year and I didn't know about any of these areas! I only attended two large markets - one was called the Saturday Night Market and it was huge. I walked for hours and still don't think I saw it all. And I always research what to do ahead of time and didn't see these other markets listed. I stayed in the old town near Chang Phuak Gate. How far are these from there? I go to these markets to experience new foods, and to bring home beautiful memories for my home such as paintings and masks - not so much tabletop things. The only clothing I look for are nice tee shirts. How do these markets compare with the Sat night one for these things? BTW, I had Khao Soi for the first time in 2018 in Chiang Rai. I knew the broth flavor reminded me of something, then I realized it was Lipton Chicken Noodle soup. Have you had that and do you think it tastes similar? 🤔😊 Waiting for your reply

Ahhh! No, never tried Lipton chicken noodle soup. But good to know, now I'm curious 😁😁. About the markets, I think the souvenirs are very similar in all of them. The Saturday night and the Sunday night I think have more options for souvenirs, so I'm pretty sure you didn't miss out much. Warorot is cheaper though, as it's not touristy. They're all close to the river, east of where you stayed, except for the last night market (the one we arrived late). That's close to the opposite gate as compared to where you were, the Chiang Mai gate. All the best to you and happy 2021!

@@RenataPereiraTV Hi Renata! Thanks for the info. Yes, you will have to try Lipton. It's a dry soup you add boiling water to. Not sure if it's still made though. I added Warorot to my trip notes. Saw your info about Google Fi - I use Grab and such in SE Asia - and the drivers need to communicate with you, and many times they call. Can that still be done without a foreign sim? Can you subscribe as needed when you are on a trip, or is it only a term subscription? Thanks!

@@magicbobNJ Yes, it fully works there, exactly like In the US. And you pay the same $10 per 1GB whether you’re in the US or abroad. You land and your phone immediately works. I love it. It works for Maps, the Grab calls too, but I always refuse those calls from drivers, as they get very confused (most don’t understand English), so I prefer texting them instead, as Grab auto translates into Thai or other SE Asian languages. It’s fantastic! There’s no subscription for Google Fi, you pay per month. For me it’s perfect as that’s my only phone plan, so I don’t spend more on phones when I’m abroad. But if you keep your existing plan and only get Fi for the trips, it may end up being more expensive than getting a local SIM depending on the country. Just something to consider 😉
