@Chibi im surprised you of all people didnt notice the symbolism of the fairy and the flower story. The fairy represents gut's inner fears of comradery & abandonment. The most interesting thing I really took from it was the possible forshadowing of gut's death. See,if the fairy is supposed to be gutts,and it dies from being so blind that it was killing itself trying to save gutts. Then you compare that to how it is when gutts fights to protect his friends with the berserker armor on[which lets you be injured without noticing],its pretty easy to see the correlation.

I'm glad you seemed to have enjoyed reading Berserk as much as I did throughout the years! :-) As a long time fan of this series (my favourite together with Urasawa's Monster), I found really interesting watching your reviews and listening to you crafting theories (btw, you were on spot most of the times: kudos!) As for future plot developments, I hope Guts won't get completely consumed by the berserker armour: honestly, he doesn't deserve such a miserable end after all the shit he's gone through. But I think that even sadder than Guts' destiny is the fact the whole world (with very few exception) is buying into Griffith's bullshit and hailing him as the saviour of the world ... from a horrific situation that he deliberately created by having the astral layers merging! The future of the Berserk universe looks gloomier than ever with the whole world literally in the Godhand's palm! :-/

A year or two ago I found Berserk, and quickly read all of it in a night. It was unimaginably addictive, I couldn't stop. Watching your reviews have made me want to reread it, it seems that I read through it so quickly that I missed a lot of what was going on. It is truly the best manga that I know of.

The journey is not over Chibi..far from it..there are still 4 chapters left to review! I'm finally caught up to the volumes as well and this was quite an amazing journey thus far. (It's my favorite manga ever) This was another great volume..so much information and events and reveals that blew me away: the boy being an avatar of the flower god being one (i think that's the elf king helping Guts as well), Guts losing his eyesight is very sad..how on earth is he going to get his sight back? There must be some sort of magic to fix that. His backstory chapters before he met Griffith with Chicchi healing his wounds. It seems that Seeing Isma joining Guts's company is quite something good to handle all the bad things that have happened as well as yay Rickert! :D Yeah..so many people gathering around the city..eclipse reenactment to summon the rest of the God hands? Sure looks like it..or perhaps just speculation. PS: Review the last 4 chapters pls! :P

I had different feelings about the flashback.I felt Guts was just like this fairy that has given herself for other person little by little.The same way guts was destroying himself for Caska.But there was also hope in it.Its not shown as something bad happened in the end.It depends how You take the symbolism when Guts took the flower to the meadow.And also in past he was told not to trust others but we clearly see he trusts his life to others ( Shiruke or even the mermaids )

It is pretty obvious that the boy is Guts & cascas child who is able to take contol over femto's body whenever there is a full moon. Atleast this is the most plausible thought considering what we saw in Volume 28 when he first appeared. What Shierke says is only a guess and the similiraties between the demon child and the moonlight boyare too strong o be just a coincidence. Glad that you are reading Vagabond next, it is my 2nd favorite Manga. It is to put it simply an intense character study, the main character Musashi is great.

Hey, Chibi! I listened to all of your Berserk reviews for the past few days and you did a great job! My interest in this manga returned with the new anime airing right now and i was looking to listen something related to the manga. This is how i stumbled upon your reviews :). Keep up the good work! I am following Berserk since 2008 and it become one of my all time favs. I read a theory a while back that Griffith gathers all these people in Falconia only to initiate a second Eclipse where he will sacrifice them in order to become a God himself. The mere thought of this is just terrifying O.O ^^. What do you think about this? Also i don't really know how Gats will be able to oppose him and the God Hand and the Apostles. They are just so damn powerfull. Gats will need powerfull allies so he can battle the enemies properly. Skull Knight is on his side tho but this is not enough ^^. Hope the elves have something under their sleeve to counter the demons :D.

Chibi my man, i've been thinking (and i'm sorry if you thought of this or if you said it in one of your videos) remember when guts and company were getting down to rescue griffith and the corpses on the bottom were branded? they said that those were some remains of the city of gaiseric right? what if the beef between void and skeleton knight it's because void -as a human- sacrificied all of the people to become godhand and then triggering the hate that skull feels towards him. As we know in this series there are lots of foreshadowing and things kind of tend to repeat themselves. if this is the case it would make skull knight and guts even more similar

alex chondros I wouldn't say inspired...but there's several parallels at times (especially Golden Age), and Berserk did come first by about 3 years before Song of Ice and Fire. But that can also be just being based in a more realistic (and uncensored) Medieval low fantasy world.

I think I understand the significance of the flower spirit Chichi's sacrifice. Guts was born from a corpse, faced death numerous times, escaped although narrowly numerous times. The sacrifices made in the Berserk Universe (using Beherits for self gain) as well as the negative emotions of humanity and the IOE binds people to Causality, which is inherently evil/ negative. So then sacrifices which are made out of selflessness or love can therefore perhaps abstain from this self perpetuating cycle. Maybe, just maybe this is the primary reason or one reason as to why Guts has survived for as long as he has. Until joining the BOTF he was only living for himself, but only after meeting Casca and slaying 100 soldiers was he selfless for another human. While all this time the beast of darkness is supposedly fueling his revenge, I wonder if that's not just Guts' negative emotions and the actual side of him which seeks vengeance is doing it all for Casca, so they/ she can go back to having a normal life and live peacefully. As the series progresses from the Black Swordsman until Chapter 37, Guts has shown much more humility, especially to his own band of followers.

THE FLASHBACK IS FORESHADOWING!!! There are major plot similarities among the flashback stories. In the flashback, Guts plays both roles: a decoy & a person who exploits. The story was meant to show that Guts thinks his companions are naive and they will get hurt or die, like chitch and he was in the flashback. Guts dreamed/remembered himself walking away unharmed, foreshadowing that Guts will survive whatever he and his companions must endure to recover Casca's mind.

What I pulled out of that flashback was that gut's had a connection to the spirit world at a young age... Gut's can see puck, It could be considered a bit iffy had this flashback not happened. if you get what I'm saying ;s

Yeah thats mostly how I took it too, coupled with the fact that Guts yet again defies the odds for survival. Another connection could simply be self-sacrifice, Chich pretty much gave her life for Guts, which is pretty much what Guts is doing now. And if he hadnt reached for the flower when it blew away he would've been hit by that arrow, btw was Chich too far gone by then or did she possibly have a hand in it? Anyway I have a feeling we're gonna get some major progress the next time we see Guts and co. and I think this magnificent trip down memory lane works as a perfect transition from the Sea God and Falconia business to the arrival at Skellig. Btw I love how Miura just casually puts those Gambino-flashbacks within the flashback like its cakewalk, thats some epic Miura storytelling for ya! "Flashback-ception?" =)

I would not say it is my favorite manga BUT it is the best manga I have read. I mean for nostalgia , frequency, and just overall fun and adventurous OP wins. Berserk beats OP in every other aspect for me .FavShounen : OP ( maybe AS?) FavSeinen : Berserk ( please read Vagabond , closest to the best , almost close to it , really worth it ). Now these are must reads: Vagabond ! , true story, excellent art on par with Berserk, really realistic yet so symbolic , romance? ( im only 38 chaps in ) and some comedy , and likeable characters , this is by far the only manga I would compare to the Berserkness of Berserk !
