I took my first trip to Chicago in 1965, as a 7-year old, and I vividly remember Riverview Park, and specifically that water chute ride. I even still recall the hipster talk of the ride attendant, which was new to me. And the Museum of Science and Industry is heaven! A city in of itself. This video brought back so many fun memories! 👏

I was born 10 years later but I really miss the way the city made me feel in the 70's and 80's -- Watching the Cubs play, shopping at Marshall Field's, riding the bus around the city (like those old models shown in this video)... Growing up there was epic. Summers were so pleasant and memorable... almost as if the Ozone layer was still in tact.
@mgo4917Ай бұрын
I’m with you. It was a great time to grow up! I lived on the South Side going to Sox games and me and my friend would take the bus up to catch a Cubs game once in awhile and we were only 10! We’d play fast pitch, watch Cubs games with Harry Caray at 1:20pm, Bozo, Son of Svengoolie, family picnics by the beach. The food,Midwest people, the huge Christmas decorations and much more. Damn I’m thankful for it all.

Historically speaking, Chicago was one of the five largest cities in the world and also was considered the fastest growing city *ever.* The world's first skyscraper was developed here as well as nuclear power, commodities trading, and so on so of course it'll have the world's largest XYZ. Mccormick Place is the largest convention center in the US Sears/Willis Tower is technically still the second tallest building in the US Cook County is the 2nd most populated County in the US O'Hare (ORD) has the most runways of any airport on earth and is the most connected airport on earth as well Chicago has the largest rail network in the country and is the central node to moving goods across the country (hence why it needed to rebuilt after the fire) Chicago Institue of Art, which is about to go undergo expansion, is the 2nd largest Art museum in the country And so on and so forth. It's a reason Chicago is typically mentioned in media as an important city.

This piece was done a year after I was born. It still propagates the claim that Fort Dearborn was the founding of Chicago. It ignores what is more accurate that it was founded by a black trader Jean Baptiste Point du Sable in 1780. Maxwell Street Market was still around when I was a kid. Also I went to St. Ignatius Col. Prep. which is another building that survived the Chicago Fire. Hook and Ladder engines never went away.
