How did we ever manage to recover from it so quickly? Chicago is one tough city.

I randomly saw this video on my recommendations and I immediately remembered this moment I was like 10 years old the day we had the blizzard

It does look like a movie set of an apocalypse movie...though of course with real snow and ice instead of fake stuff...

what a day to remember. i'll never forget walking down the middle of the biggest highways and understanding what it feels like to have the world come to a stop. it was something i will never forget and will surely tell my grand kids about... unless these crazy blizzards become common.

@svenskakr4 A) The bus is not a total loss. In fact, it has no damage to it whatsoever from what is shown in that video. It more than likely took a recharging of it's batteries, a safety inspection and a cleaning before it was placed back on service, probably within 3 days. B) It was not the biggest blizzard Chicago has seen since 1941, the 1967 and 1999 blizzards were both larger and longer and in fact, the 1941 blizzard didn't even affect Chicago, it was a Wisconsin/Minnesota Blizzard.

I remember this. I was suppose the bus that got stuck on the drive that evening. But a split second decision to catch another bus ahead of it and going down locally (not on the drive) on another route was probably the "dumb luck" decision of the year.

NYC buses had the same effect. Buses being abandoned, stuck...memories.

Letticia Rosado if I had the money to go over here I could fix her easily. Being a bus mechanic in the past and now a bus driver I’d fix it and drive it right outta there

I remember that day, 4 feet of snow in front on my house!! it was crazy!! but now i live somewhere warmer
@JDIC1812 жыл бұрын
I was home when this blzzard hit, Home with my children and very warm. Next day I look out the window and see the snowed very high, and I couldn't step out of my house. To my luck I had recently did grocery shopping so I stayed in all day. Although that night when blizzard was hitting Chicago I did notice losts of vehicles getting stuck in the street.

The doors are air operated. With the bus shut off for hours (and thus, the air compressor not running), the air would have leaked out of the doors, and the high winds could easily blow them open. I'm sure the doors were shut when the bus was first abandoned.

Wow!

Folding bus doors are not very weathertight even when they're closed. I suspect with the high wind, snow would've blown inside even if the doors had been left shut, and it wouldn't have melted because the heat was off after the bus was abandoned. But there was no reason to close the doors anyway, as people were leaving. They had more important concerns at that point, like managing to survive and get to shelter.

@tribar1022 Remeber the 1967 blizzard? I do and I was a kid back then! I was also a kid in '79(a teen in January 1979)when that blizzard hit as well!

@Ilovemusic3225 I live in the chicago area and I don't see it yet. I've read articles but so far it seems pretty calm. No snow (over 2 inches) for the next ten days so... Yes.

@deadsaid Yes, same I walked down 1-57 for about 7-8 miles at like 4AM in the blizzard It felt like I was in a totally new world and that civilization had moved away

@kjchicago1 my grandparents experienced the blizzard of '67, they said it was the worst one they had ever been in. They moved to alabama though, and thats where ive hardly seen any snow in my life.

@bargeld099 жыл бұрын
Why did the driver leave the door open? Or some idiot could have done that.
@daveswagon9 жыл бұрын
I believe the doors might be pneumatically operated and can't be locked shut if the vehicle is turned off.
@bargeld099 жыл бұрын
I thought they could be pulled them shut from out side.
