NBA in the 90s just looked so smooth and graceful combined with power and fierce competition. Today's game just doesn't have the same appeal...

Watch the play Pippen makes at 2:43. Gets a block, pokes the ball away from Penny and then contests the shot. Amazing defender!

Cant seem to go on a 90's Bulls vid without someone bringing up the Heat and Lebron. What do they have to do with this video?
@kOrOne7916 жыл бұрын
It's a myth that Scottie always defended the opponents' superstar. Watch the '91 finals again, Jordan defended Magic at least as often as Scottie did, if not more. When Jordan was in foul trouble, Scottie jumped in because they needed MJ at the end of games. That's pretty much the story.

By the way, Jordan gave his car to Pippen in 1997 and gracefully said they were both MVP's of that finals series. You know, the series where Jordan hit a game winner in G1, dominated G2 (almost a triple d with 38pts, 13rbs and 9ass), won G5 almost by himself (with the flu) and dished out the game-deciding assist to Kerr in G6. That series. Pip was the front runner for Finals MVP a year later till Game 5 which the Bulls lost. Then came Game 6 and we all know what happened there.

Every time Dennis Rodman hits an outside shot, I get chills Because I know he’s about to act like he had no idea he could do it Meanwhile I know that he knows, that he’s capable Imagine Rodman being a willing scorer his whole career on top of everything else he did on the court

I love Pippen, but let's not forget his disappearing acts during several playoff series. Pippen was a way more complete player on the second 3-peat team.

They could've given the award to Rodman in 1996, but other than that there was no doubt who should be the Finals MVP for the Bulls.

MJ took these type of shooting days personal, by making a statement the very next game (45pts 16/23 fg%)

The 90's Bulls were such a great and disciplined team. They would kill the Lakers of today. Rodman would make Gasol wish he was still in Spain.
@kOrOne7916 жыл бұрын
What I meant was that Pippen sometimes lacked the cojones when the opposing team defended him a bit rougher than usual, he was easier to intimidade on the first 3-peat team. The Knicks for example did an impressive job on him in 1992. Also, Pippen was never really clutch when you think about it. At the end of games when it mattered the most, the formula was simply 'get the ball to Michael' and that was it. Jordan was a born leader and non-replaceable, he handled the pressure and delivered.

i recall kids my age at the time (12) wearing shaq and penny jerseys. they weren't wearing them because they were winners obviously, getting swept by houston in the 95 finals and then by the bulls in the 96 ECF...

No way... I agree 1000% with u eadymike... LeBron aint got no shit on MJ, Im sick of all the media saying how great he is and drawing comparison to all past legends who had a much harder time back then, and the NBA is being played way too sissylike, which benefits crybabies like lebron and kobe.

Jordan guarded Isiah, Joe D, Reggie, Starks, Drexler, Richmond, Penny, Hill, Harper, Ehlo, etc. All great offensive players on their own. Jordan wanted those matchups so he could shut them down, he took pride in his defense.

I can't believe I'm doing this, oh well. Pippen is easily on of my favourite players ever and I more than willing to give credit where credit is due. But Pippen was and will never be near Jordan's status. He was probably the best second banana ever, but even that is debatable. In 1999 "Ultimate Sports" ranked the Top 50 players of all time and Pippen was placed at #29. Here is what they wrote at that time:

Shaq talks all that fried chicken nonsense and he got swept the whole 90s. He didn't win till he had a stacked team w Kobe and Phil as coach. And still needed miracle shots by teammates and meltdowns by opponents to win. Lucky to have 4.

"The most versatile forward since John Havlicek --- and of late a consistent whiner --- Scottie Pippen possesses a singular combination of skills at the small forward position. While Havlicek was the better perimeter shooter, Pippen is a great open floor player and probably the greatest defensive forward of all-time, being honored six times with First-Team Defense awards." No one but fanboys view Pippen in the same realm as Jordan.

the nba and the players of today are over hyped and speaks a lot for themselves with nothing to show for while the nba of old never had to pretend they were great coz the teams and individual talents spoke for itself. the nba lost its glamour when the last true dynasty broke up and the league as we know it is dead!
