I remember the first time I heard the full song with the piano introduction, it made me like the song even more. Radio stations never played the complete version. The radio stations in my area hardly played Chicago songs anyway. I’ve never felt Chicago got the recognition they deserved. Took what seemed like a lifetime to finally be inducted into the Rocknroll Hall of fame. Just an absolute shame Terry is no longer with us to participate. I was fortunate enough in 1976 to see my first Chicago concert with all the original members. It will always be my most memorable for another reason also.

@penncentral -- Absolutely. I tell people that the best era of music was between 1964 -- the British invasion -- until right about 1990-ish, maybe 1992. The 60's, 70's, and 80's were THE best era for music. The krappe produced today cannot hold a candle to the music of those good ol' days. So. Much. Good. Music.

@PhillipLandmeier Жыл бұрын
@@cashmooreproductionsllc267 Yup. He (Lamm) wanted to write something completely different, not blues, and give the horns a chance to shine. The song is about time and he plays with time. His piano intro is freestyle and the intro continues with each measure changing time sig. from 7/8 to 9/8, making it sound "out of sync", then several measures in 5/4, resolving to a walking 4/4 for the rest of the tune. It's fabulous and he does it without making it sound complicated or dense. It sounds happy-go-lucky. Love it.

Lyrics: As I was walking down the street one day A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah And I said Does anybody really know what time it is (I don't) Does anybody really care (care about time) If so I can't imagine why (no, no) We've all got time enough to cry And I was walking down the street one day A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead And I said Does anybody really know what time it is (I don't) Does anybody really care (care about time) If so I can't imagine why (no, no) We've all got time enough to cry And I was walking down the street one day (people runnin' everywhere) Being pushed and shoved by people (don't know where to go) Trying to beat the clock, oh, no I just don't know (don't know where I am) I don't know, I don't know, oh (don't have time to think past the last mile) (Have no time to look around) And I said, yes I said (run around and think why) Does anybody really know what time it is (I don't) Does anybody really care (care about time) If so I can't imagine why (no, no) We've all got time enough to die Everybody's working (I don't care) I don't care (about time) About time (no, no) I don't care

My first concert was Chicago and the Beach Boys together. My parents had to drive us to the show, I was like 15. I remember Lee Laughnane, the trumpet player, came out and sang You are so Beautiful -the Joe Cocker hit, solo with Lamm on piano during the soundcheck. Then, 1 hour of Chicago. 1 hour of Beach Boys. Next, 1 hour of both on stage, something like 15 musicians. Epic. I think we were all on our feet singing Barbara Ann and Saturday in the park. Terry Kath was an amazing guitarist, and the entire band was superb. Listen carefully to the drummer - one of the best ever - Danny Serephine.

I was in my late teens when this song was popular. Their instrumental ability blew me away, even then. You never heard this kind of sound from a rock band.

Chicago is one of my favorite groups, have loved them since I was 17. My mom and I would go see them when they would come to LA to perform at The Greek Theatre.We'd go to see them whether they were on tour by themselves or with Earth Wind and Fire. My favorite song is "You're the Inspiration" and in turn, inspiration is half of my primary email address,.

Wow... I can’t believe this sound Quality? I mean it’s as close to the original analog LP release I have ever heard! Where’s an artifact ? What heart in this art folks! No matter how you slice it ! What Heart !!!! Triumphant always is the take away with Chicago! My life has been decorated with their penetrating art. Of all Pop Music nothing drives you to introspection quite so directly. 😃

I was in FM radio in the 70's in Chicago and got to play this on the air. Even then, as a 'kid," I knew it was magic. That and getting to listen to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" album before it showed up in record stores and trying to figure out with other in the station what to play on the air. WOW. I was SO fortunate and I am just happy to know I was listening to real art at the time I experienced it for the first time...never mind decades later.

Yes, this is what I was explaining to some younger guy who stumbled upon You're my inspiration. I told him go to the Chicago songs from the 1970s. They used 🎷. Horns. And Peter Cetera is unrecognizable w/his long hair. I loved Terry Kath...I wascin a Drum Corp I twirled the rifle.but we had a huge horn ensemble and we were always doing Chicago Transit Auth. Songs. We would get 1st place bc they were popular on the radio then. Those were the great day's, 1970s decade. I remember Chicago had to drop Transit Authority bc of the train system there.😉 I still have the original double album with Chicago Transit Authority on it..it's a gun metal gray color. The vinyls _albums are in great shape too.
