Bully for you but that's a violation in most cities. Just seldom enforced. Car horns are warning devices & not for intimidation, impatience or scolding.

@Itz_Cyclone Gaming Which is why we use them, as a WARNING DEVICE to ensure drivers are aware we are proceeding through an intersection including against a red signal or potentially blocking traffic. You are correct.

my brothers father in law retired from CFD, 30 years on the job. his name is Leo Kehoe. i think he was at Truck 3. Tim is his son in law, we both served as volunteers with Lyndon FD in Louisville KY. i know that Leo also worked as truck driver to support his family on his off days. i knew him personally. a great man. he went into fires with no air pack on one fire and almost died. they made a rescue that night.

I realize driving laws vary from state to state but it makes sense to me as a Californian that cross hatches painted on the street mean "don't stop here/do not block".

Yeah, it is Engine 18 in real life, but on TV with Chicago Fire, it is better known as Firehouse 51 home to Engine Company 51, Rescue Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Deputy District 2-2-6, and Truck Company 81.

Sirens are good sounds. People can be hurt in silence. Sirens are the sounds of people coming to help.

If you hear a siren, it's people coming like the cavalry to save people. We don't use sirens when people are dead. We call the ME. So be glad, if a bit annoyed, when you hear the cavalry's bugle. By the way, Chicago is on Lake Michigan, not Erie. Just joshing you.

@@posthumousc4913 Agreed but too much noise & people tune out, buds in, leave reality behind. I was taught years ago in EVOC to avoid continuous use of warning devices: sirens, air horns, profanity. We would run late at night without anything but emergency lights slowing to clear intersections. This is less practical in a city like Chicago but moderation is a virtue.

Depends on the part of the country, Midwestern states tend to have blue lights as well as reds on their rigs.

Green & blue lights are more visible in various conditions so are being added all over. We hate to admit the Europeans were right about anything but EU standards keep showing up in US recommendations. Reflective chevrons on the back for instance. FDNY's newer apparatus have a blue light now.

I lived in Norwood Park in the 70s. The local station there still had the quarters above the truck garage with the brass fire pole. Saw a demo during a class field trip.

It is a snorkel paired with a rescue there used to be snorkel squad and normal squads due to budget cuts and no staffing they combine them to be two-piece squads

Visited the water tower house in 1986, Great bunch of guys, They arranged for the Hendricson Morita to come to the station and I was given a tour of downtown in it. Even got a chopper ride from midway.

It’s less of an engine and more a snorkel, and yes the crew of squad 1 is split between that and 1a, so they always respond together, or else they’d only have half a crew

It was built in 1904 to match Potter Palmer's Castle, in those days there were no bridges in the area and North Lake Shore Drive was a settlement for the super wealthy.

The last part with the 2 Apparatus Returning To Quarters was a good "rap up" scene, the fact the CFD Ambulance was also Responding at the same time was a good way of showing Fire Departments are never truly "Off Duty" their just "Off The Clock", same with Law Enforcement.
