Chicago migrant tent camp plan has both supporters, critics at meeting

Construction has resumed at the planned site of a proposed migrant tent camp in Brighton Park, after neighbors opposed to the project tried unsuccessfully to stop the heavy machinery from moving. The local alderwoman held a meeting where both supporters and critics gave their input.

I agree, US veterans should be given more care after they've served. But I'd like to think most of these migrants don't want to bum around, right now they're waiting for their asylum cases to be processed and be given work permits. You can't rent a place if you don't work, after all, and because the city has been slow to process, these people have no choice but to be homeless (or work illegally, which most migrants don't want to do). Ultimately most asylum cases will be denied and they'll be deported, wasting both THEIR time and our taxpayer money. It also may not be what "those" people voted for - there is a huge problem with rich white liberals voting for homeless encampments, urban prisons, migrant shelters - and they get built in working class or immigrant/minority neighborhoods whose populations were AGAINST such policies. It's easy to vote for things when you don't suffer the consequences!

1 - Chicago is a sanctuary city, but has no official policy for migrant housing. "Sanctuary City" means different things in different regions. So this isn't a "vote for policy" matter. 2 - People are leaving California for free market reasons. The state is incredibly rich and therefore the cost of living is incredibly high. Of course people are going to leave. That's fine - the stuff needs to balance out. Or do you not believe in the free market?
