it's unclear if it was cash in the wallet or they took it out of her accounts from the phone; they regularly threaten, beat and shoot if you don't unlock your phone to them in these situations. Once they unlock your phone, they go into your cashapp, venmo, bank accounts, etc. Lot of people have their stuff auto-logged in on Chrome for example too. Some people write their passwords down in their notes or take pictures. Etc. Or maybe they used her debit card to take the money out. All kinds of scenarios. It's 2024, they ain't just robbing people at gunpoint just to resell a smartphone. What's in your phone is more valuable.
