Chicago officials address SHOCKING bodycam video of fatal police-involved shooting of Dexter Reed

Video released today shows the moment gunfire erupted during a traffic stop in Chicago last month, killing a man named Dexter Reed who opened fire at officers before they responded with more than 90 gunshots in less than a minute.
Mayor Brandon Johnson addressed the incident alongside Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten.

as of what i heard they where planning on doing a bust a think on him or a hit, he was targeted in that area by unmarked and undercover cops, already being surveillanced nd only probable reason for cops to go and make a stop was for the seatbelt. 1. It's unmarked because when you're doing tactical stuff, you don't want to alert your suspect. 2. I think the "traffic stop" was a ruse. There was something we haven't been told yet about him. 3. He most likely was under suspicion for something. He had a ski mask on. 4. He fired first. You keep shooting until the threat is no longer there.

The police recognized him (a couple of blocks back when he had his window down) as a repeat violent felon who had a felony warrant out for his arrest. When the officers noticed him they called for backup, that's why there were so many cops when they approached his car. Some of the cops were the fugitive apprehension group who were there to help arrest him.

@user-zh6ih5ob5z I know nothing of the character of the person shot to death by the police. But it’s absurd that a seat belt check should be handled with such extreme prejudice. Obviously police getting shot at will fire back, they are basically a paramilitary organization. This isn’t a case where a major crime was committed yet the police acted as if they were ready to shoot with guns drawn from the get go. The question I have is this a normal procedure that others have encountered and were intimidated to surrender their rights to a gun waving force too? Probably. This instance is in the national dialogue because of the outcome of a death and cop being shot. Had the citizen not shot perhaps there would be not be this coverage and this sort of thing just would happen under the radar of news coverage. I’ve personally been pulled out by force and threat of violence by police once at a routine traffic check point with no suspicion of a crime before by 4 police just to randomly check for any outstanding warrants (I had none and was let go). But these sorts of situations are unconstitutional and belie a tendency for police to act as an independent agency not adhering to the rights of citizens to due process. So yes shooting at cops is not going to give you a great legal standing as a defense. But do we want to sanction police in dealing with minor infractions of laws in a ready for battle paramilitary manner, I don’t.
