Oh yeah, sucked to have -Workers comp -Voting rights over who ran the ship and where it went -Higher standard of living than average sailor -Retirement plans -Shipboard entertainment -Right to leave if you didn't like the situation Piracy age sailors dealt with scurvy just fine. Were they ruthless? Yeah, sometimes. They can't afford mistakes, slackers, or opposition. Reputation is everything. But shipboard pirates didn't just kill each other for no reason, most ships didn't allow it. STDs were rampant everywhere in the world, period.
