I'm not a dancer or anything and I appreciate what they're doing but when they go on point it often looks weird to me. It bugs the hell out of me.

With this type of dance they can’t be on the box of the shoe. The box is the flat part at the tip of the shoe. I love the concept of this but it really isn’t safe because of that. They could fall of the shoe easily and it’s isn’t good for their feet. Don’t get my wrong they are LOVELY and this look really cool but as a dancer I just can’t quite accept this because it isn’t safe.
@vey55796 жыл бұрын
Yes, yes! The sight of these girls doing something they're passionate about really excites me, but as a lover of ballet, I can tell you right now that this style of ballet is not safe in the least. They could suffer from some very bad injuries if they make one wrong move. But, yes, this style does require them to not be on pointe. If they were fully on the box of their shoes, the movements would be more slow and drawn out, not hip-hop like. Hip-hop has a lot of fluid, fast movements and ballet has a lot of slow, classical movements, which is why I'm having a hard time seeing how this corporates together. It looks more like jazz and the performance reminded me of Josephine Baker's banana dance.
@laurahudson93356 жыл бұрын
Well their doing it right. I'm a pointe dancer and they are actually standing on their toes and fully on the box most of the time. And this sort of thing is very common. There are people that tap on pointe and do hip hop too safely.

As a dance judge, instructor and choreographer: incorrect pointe technique can injure people to the point where they become disabled. There's a reason you need a certified teacher's permission as well as a doctor's note and X-rays and years of training before any certified dance school will let you dance en pointe. The 'hard' part of the pointe shoe - the part that's around the toes and forefoot - is called the 'box', and to correctly support your body weight, you need to be on your box. These ladies are not on it, rather they are dancing behind it, and that means that all of the physical stress lands on the ankles. One wrong step, and they'll break theirs. Do I teach classical ballet, among other styles? Yes. Cechetti. Does that mean I disapprove of any 'modern' takes on pointe work? Gosh no! I strongly encourage creativity and making your own choreography. The people commenting on their pointe technique aren't angrily criticising; we're concerned. Very concerned. We all love dance, and would hate to see someone become permanently injured because of something as trivial as choosing between pointe shoes and flat slippers. One shoe does not a ballerina make.
@missmoxie91884 жыл бұрын
Could they improve their technique and get on their box? The style seems a little bouncier than traditional ballet
@graces30204 жыл бұрын
Miss Moxie that’s what’s so dangerous about the style. Tbh no matter how much they train to get better technique, hiplet just disregards every rule and safety precaution ballerinas take when dancing on pointe.
@TrangNguyen-rp7mv4 жыл бұрын
There teacher is classically trained as well as the girls. If you do research, you can see they are required to go through rigorous classical ballet and be en pointe for three years. Additionally, hiplet is a 1 hour class they take 1x per week where the rest of the week is dedicated to ballet. Y'all are ridiculous!
@mrshaggie8104 жыл бұрын
But looking at these girls technique...they should not have advanced to hiplet then...their technique is that of a beginner...they are not pulled up properly, or turned out, or on their boxes.

I am a dance major and a seriously trained dancer, and when I look at this it makes me cringe so bad because they are not on their box. The concept is great but the "dancers" are not well trained at all. Some of them shouldn't even be on pointe in the first place. They. Need. Better. Training.

Ann Salami dancing en pointe for 5 minutes isn't that long compared to ballerinas. I know that training takes time but... For me as a ballet dancer it is painfull to watch these girls dance. They are poorly trainned or didn't get the time for more ballet training. They are really hurting their feet and ankles, if they keep doing hiplet without any propper ballet training this can lead to bad injuries. The hopping on pointe can be really dangerous without much experience and they look pretty new to pointe. The Dancing Mom yes they had to train in classical ballet before this. They’ve been dancing for many years. Didn’t mean for my comment to sound mean. But yes to make this into hip hop, they’re knees have to bend..

We should all support and appreciate these young women and their skills. No one on this page can take credit for inventing anything these ladies are doing but we can admire them and send them some Love! Let's show some love and respect for someone else's dream!

I am amazed at the comments and abuse that these young women are getting. There is always a “professional” that sees something new and rather than embrace the potential you tear it down. I am sure that if other young people were saying this it would be called bullying. My daughter danced for years including beginning ballet. The instructor kept telling me to have her audition for our local company. My daughter was a natural talent in all genres but she did not have the discipline for it. The fact that these young women are not on the street in gangs should be a testimony that they did not learn this in a once a week class. There will always be someone that is better. Rather than be negative see what you can do to help improve the situation as some of you did.

@itsbriste4 жыл бұрын
I’m black and I think it’s okay. I’m not the biggest fan of it. But it’s okay. However I think they need to be more tighter and their feet were sickled in a lot. It’s nice but they shouldn’t be jumping en pointe nor sickling. They should’ve gotten proper ballet training first and then don’t this so their feet would be stronger. I don’t think a lot of them had a lot of good training first. Also I think what made them look kinda bad was the fact that the moves are were too quick for them to fully embrace a lot of technique. But it’s also a mix of ballet and hip hop sooo, it’s not supposed to be perfect.

cece did u say chocolate girls like your not one get ur head checked. second they are not in it for competition they are in it for themselves and they sure are the bomb. last i bet if white folks started doing exactly what they do i bet in your eyes it would be competition. your one of those blacks who would say i am proud to be black but then stab black people in the back. get a grip black people are human and just as good as any other race on the planet.
@clarisse24106 жыл бұрын
starlightaura 006 Lmao you're stupid as hell I am a chocolate girl most definitely and I'm proud. Did I ever say that black people weren't human ? It's a fact that this isn't for competition as a ballerina they're only in it for them you're right but did I ever say they weren't ? You're making assumptions when you don't even know me lol. From your comment I can tell you're a nasty piece of shit who's stupid as hell and doesn't know anything. How does that feel plus white people can never pull a dance off like foh I'm black and will always be black, black as chocolate, black as my MLK, black as my ancestors. Read my comments and replies before coming for me 🖕🏾

cece i dont have to go down to your level with the bitch and that i am a nasty piece of shit lol i never came after you i came after your comment. second you dont know me either so you calling me bitches and pieces of shit must be what you are since thats how you communicate. last you can continue calling me all kinds of bitches and pieces of shit because my 23 year army career helped get a home on my own merits and just because you call me those vile things out of your vile mouth doesnt make me so so i dont have to go down to your level and reply in kind.

All the ballet experts fighting behind a screen saying things such as this is awful and they have no technique and etc...... it’s not ballet it’s hiplets a form of ballet so grab your shoes and take yourself to a ballet video if you can’t handle people moving with rhythm while on their toes
@Sunset17056 жыл бұрын
kim c that’s the point, though. They are not moving with rhythm. There are lots of ways to incorporate other styles into ballet...this is not it.

So no one can expound on dance? Unless it is classical, it isn't relevant? Where would contemporary ballet be if not for George Ballanchine? Modern dance without Isadora Duncan or Arthur Mitchell saying "screw you, blacks can dance ballet" and formed Dance Theater of Harlem. The arts are limitless. Rap wasn't considered music in the 70's and 80's, and in the 21st Century it is a multi-billion dollar music business globally with a group 3-6 Mafia earning an Academy Award for Best Original Song, "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp". These young ladies are making their mark. I look forward to see where this form of dance is headed.
@eleo_b6 жыл бұрын
Fourthgirl | Not sure who you're responding too, but my concern was about their feet and ankles. They're going to ruin their feet in a couple of years if they keep this up. I said nothing about their dancing skills or the style.

It’s a cool concept and they put in a lot of effort and all, but they shouldn’t be doing that in pointe shoes. They’re not properly on the box and haven’t gone through professional training with pointe shoes, so they’re very likely to hurt themselves. Proper dancers like myself disapprove of hiplet because they break the rules of classical ballet, and take away the ballet culture from us, but the worst thing is they’re going to hurt themselves!

Saniya Rose EXACTLY but all this is trash to me like wtf can we start with a positive classic? Sure they’re break boundaries but it wasn’t very well put together
@cindychristian17006 жыл бұрын
Saniya Rose Arthur Mitchell already showed the world like over 40 years ago that black people can do classical ballet with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. This is just a different twist on classical ballet. Besides do you really think that anyone who isn't classical trained could do what these young ladies did! It would be impossible!!!
@annaSbrown6 жыл бұрын
The world has Misty Copeland and others who have broken the boundaries into the classical ballet arena. It's has been proven and shown. This is a way to bring a classical spin to a new generation. In the interview it was stated that the knowledge and skill of classical is taught and learned before progressing to this level.
@eonlinehelp6 жыл бұрын
Saniya Rose I agree. I wld hv like to see more of the classical ballet moves incorporated with some of the hiphop moves, so it doesnt look like they are jst doing hiphop in ballet shoes. But overall they are talented
