Chicago Tattoo Arts Convention 2019 | Villain Arts

The 10th annual Chicago Tattoo Arts Convention took place on March 22nd to the 24th at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center. The tattoo contest here eclipsed the Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention which is the biggest tattoo convention in the world! So much love in Chicago with over 700 artists in attendance!

From my experience @ tattoo conventions they charge an excess of 40-65 % more than normal ... $400 tattoos would cost $800-1150

Depends on the artist. If they are in high demand for that convention they can do that to make up for lost income. After all they are there independently.

I have found the reverse. I have gotten two great portraits and they were considerably less that if I were to do an appointment. Perhaps supply and demand. I also found getting appts from artists with their books closed happens as well.

I walk around the whole convention and do try to showcase black tattoo artists but there are external factors preventing me from shooting. 1 they may not be tattooing when I walk around. 2. The booth may be over crowded for me to get in to shoot or 3. The lighting is terrible and would not be able to make out the art. If you check out other videos black ink crew is Def featured, as well as other artists. Ive also got a ton of area to cover so I'm not gonna fight to get into an overcrowded booth.

Lol at the end of the day this is my video and I can shoot whoever I want. I just told you the factors that limit me from shooting whether they are black or not. There are a ton of other artists that are not in these videos either. Whether or not you can comprehend that is on you. If you really want to see more black artists specifically I suggest you attend the show yourself.

It's unique as in everyone has a story and different art by different artists. "normalized" is far from true. Maybe more socially acceptable. There still is no standard for how or where a tattoo should go. Ultimately it's up to the collector.

It's not like a person needs a pre-requisite to get a tattoo so I'm honestly not sure why you seem offended. So only a certain type of person is supposed to have tattoos? I guess in your world this would only include bikers, racists, and gang members? A tattoo is his or her own story... It shouldn't matter to you at all. Also, thanks to those "nerds, dorks, and librarians" tattoos are no longer seen as taboo but have become more accepted in society. Having normalization is a good thing when it comes to things like this. As long as it's not outrageous or daft offensive then it should be a positive.
