Like Bruisewillies notes, you can, and I’ve seen it done, convert an EB-0 to 6 string. Nut, bridge, pickups.

These covers over the strings, same as you would find on a Fender bass, were for resting your palm on. These basses were intended to played by guitarists with a pick. This is also why the finger rest was under the strings. The Fender Precision bass was so named because it had frets making it easy for guitarists (like Carol Kaye and Joe Osborne… both play with a pick too) to double on bass. We always put foam under the strings back in the early 70s. That and flats were the sound of the day. And often played with a pick.

So good to see a guitarist playing a 6 string guitar/bass actually playing guitar riffs on them. Every time I see a video of a guitarist with a Fender 6 they start playing bass lines on them!

Fk, that's a thing of a beauty When I think of 6 string bass, the jazz bassist Anthony Jackson comes to mind. That dude is a monster of a bass player, and has played 6 string bass since the mid 70's. He had a contrabass guitar made for him tuned to BEADGC. I'm guessing this one is an octave below a standard guitar. So cool.

The Woody thing blew my mind. I thought I had heard he worked for Gibson a bit before going to work for Gruhns. With his love of multi-stringed basses and massive collection, I wouldn't be surprised if this instrument goes back to him. If not, the sachel must be a nod to the Hot Licks video.
