I know is old and I am far behind. But I am trying to watch all you are doing. I am getting wiser, I think of having chicks someday but that is some day. I really love your vlogs and I really think you are someone I would love to meet. Ty for all you do.

Awesome. Thank you for sharing this I've seen so much debate about whether or not to use plastic tubs. (Of course...people are so willing to debate pretty much EVERYTHING, aren't they? LOL The temptation to sound smart is strong I guess) -- Seems like a no-brainer to me that the plastic would be the most hygienic. I've been wandering around You Tube looking at people's set ups. I do wonder how fast mine will outgrow a tub though, since I'll have 7 chicks. Was good to see your set up. Blessings!

Get a 30 gallon tote then instead of the 18. They are $10 at Lowes. It will give you more room for 4 or more babies. The plastic is so strong-they really can not peck them that young so you should be safe! We have never had an issue. Good luck and thank you for watching!

I just ordered 20 egg layers. How long can I keep them in the plastic tub and then what? Also how often do you clean out the plastic tub?

Hi, is it safe to use a heating plate over hay? I know headlamps can start a fire but I’m not sure about the heating plates. Thanks in advance.

I've been enjoying your videos on raising chickens and have learned a great deal from you. My granddaughters and I are about to take the plunge and are setting up a brooder before we purchase our chicks. I was also leery of using a 250 watt bulb as a heat source and purchased the EcoGlow 20. It looks pretty simple to use, and I'm guessing that watching the chick's behavior will tell me if I have the height set properly or not. But I find myself wondering how high to adjust the height each week to achieve the 5 degree decrease in temperature per week. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Do you vaccinate your chicks for Mareks? If so, can you do a video showing us how. And I'd you don't, why? Just trying to learn all I can before getting any.

It’s a preference if you want friendly chicks it’s better to put them into a brooder

Nice video. Have never removed chicks when the mother was sitting on more eggs waiting to hatch. Mother hen can keep the chicks safe and warm. Having nests set up so they are a foot or two off the ground with a front that prevents chicks from falling out works well. Of course when you live off grid and do not have easy access to power for a brooder also plays a role. How did the old timers do it in decades/centuries past?

I removed her so that she will hatch all of the eggs and not abandon any. I am sure we will try all methods. ;-)

We like the plastic tubs for hygiene. Also because they are cheap and easy to replace. They get beat up here big time.

Totally getting an eco glow! I'm all set with the fire lamps! Having said that. This is my first time hatching and am wondering how long you keep them in the incubator after they hatch?? I have heard other places that you keep them in a full day after hatching. What would you suggest?
