Chick Corea - Sicily Steve Gadd 1978 By Aussie Drum Nerd

(4:10) cowbell section with heaps of snare ghost notes- to learn all the little notes I transcribed the whole section was very challenging as each bar changes and there is many ghost notes and accents. This is from 1978 Chick Corea Album "Friends". The main groove is an inverted parradiddle with latin bass drum pattern/
The second groove is a classic Gadd left hand on hi hat groove. . Steve Gadd is so inventive in his playing, the patterns
he creates are just amazing and always compliment the music. The groove master! one of the greatest and most influential players ever. I highly reccomend this album, some of gadds best work. Also featured in this video is an orange and black moth flying around, he even landed on me at one stage haha!. Thank you for watching.

This is one of my favorite drum lines I have ever heard. I have been trying for years to understand it, I think I can feel it, but I cannot reproduce it, nor understand it. Try the right on the snare drum instead, left hand on the hi hat. I think that's how he actually played it.

@@DeckerCreek I have been working this on my own. I can play quarter notes on the bass drum and start the para diddle on 1+ finally!!! It's painfully slow and I can only give many thanks for the advice, and video tutorials. How blessed I am that I can actually 'see' this being played. Thank-you all.

@@kennethschweighardt4920 It’s a reverse paraddidle RR”L”R LL”R”L where the quoted stroke is the accent. The paraddidle starts on the and of the beat, left hand on the hi hat, right hand on the snare.

Good listening skills and execution. It's a lot of work to pull all that together. The inverted paradiddle between the hi-hat and snare is LLRL RRLR with accents on the third note of each group so that they, in effect, create the upbeat hi-hat part of the samba. (For comparison, a normal paradiddle is RLRR LRLL). And then there's the typical samba pattern on the bass drum. I figured out a lot of this drum part years ago, but you have done quite a bit better, especially during the drum solo.
