I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. kzbin.infoUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.

On STIHL 4-stroke mix lubricated engines, when there is a lack of lubrication, typically the piston pin bushing will heat up and seize before the piston and cylinder score. I have purposely run many STIHL 4-stroke mix lubricated engines with no lubrication in tests and they rarely score a piston and cylinder. Almost always the wrist pin seizes first. This engine uses a bushing pressed into the con rod for the piston pin (STIHL R&D found that needle bearings cannot withstand the combustion pressures of the 4-stroke engine). At minimum you are going to need a new crankshaft and piston. It may be more cost effective to replace the shortblock. The unmixed fuel was likely the cause for the failure.

That's what I've seen too, but also on a 91r seen a connecting rod bearing fly apart and eat itself. I repair all kinds of engines though. I put a 110 engine in that 91. Always wondered if you could put the older engines in the newer plastics. You can 🙂 So there's that too

i work at Lowes but not in seasonal where most powered equipment is sold .. the people on the floor dont know anything about the product they are selling so they cant alarm the customer on the do`s and dont`s of using their newly purchased product .. rarely does a piece of equipment come back because of a defect .. it comes back because of misuse by a first time buyer who did`nt read the instructions ..

This is one of the 4 cycle fuel mix engines as far as I can see. Lots of customers are burning them up due to the 4 cycle and thinking that they don't need fuel mix. Great video, Many thanks.

Yeah, to be honest, I had no idea there was such a thing until I saw this video. Then when she was holding the cylinder in her hands, I was thinking, wait, this has valves .... ummm is this a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? Couldn't figure out how a 2 stroke with poppet valves would work, unless it was forced induction like a Detroit diesel. ANyway, I downloaded a manual for it and figured out what it was, but I could completely see someone getting confused by it being a 4 stroke engine and trying to run it on straight gasoline. Learn something new every day, I guess.

Almost want a little solenoid pump with an oil tank, and have it squirt the stuff in when it’s running…. Squirt a good dose when starting, then squirt more in at high revs… Have the unit not allow running when it’s low on oil, when the battery’s down (lithium-ion battery, so it’s rechargeable)…

Failure analysis is a perfect way to learn the in and outs of any piece of equipment. It is highly surprising that the wrist pin bearing froze that solid without scoring having been worse first. Must have been a super tight tolerance on that bearing from the factory and it expanded the quickest. Definitely give us a follow up on it!

Actually what I've been learning is that these higher end Stihl blowers DO NOT have needle bearings. Instead they have a bronze bushing that are known to fail like this...

Sometimes you have employees that don't pay attention and put regular gas in. Couple weeks ago I was in the shop and one blower had a hole in piston, two didn't sound any good. And last one I looked at looked like straight gas. Changed it checked compression, aah ok. Got to start popping off but ran out of time. May need new plug mechanic thought. Train your employees to make sure they are putting in the right gas. Not just the can but when they pour it in.

It’s nice to see that even the pros run into jobs like this too.😊 I’m a landscaper of 20 years & work on my equipment myself. Most of the time I get things fixed without a hitch but every so often I get one that fights me every inch of the way. I run echo and am real pleased with them. They are powerful and it looks like they are easier to work on than Stihl. If the customer doesn’t want you to fix it maybe you’ll get some good spare parts out of it. Really enjoy your videos 👍

I ran straight gas in a PB 9010. The same thing happened, the wrist pin bearing was locked up. I now have the big Stihl 800. It works good.

Wrist pin is a common failure with Stihl, they don’t use bearings they are bushings. In most cases the crank and piston kit need to be replaced. You can also get a stubby version of the baby D adjustment tool so you don’t need to take the air box off.

Heat the piston with a propane torch and apply oil to the pin. Try to drive the pin out while it's hot. I'd really like to see what happened to the rod bearing. Rod bearings hardly ever lock up like that when the rest of the engine is OK. Very good video!

Stihl's 4 mox blowers do not use bearings for the wrist pins. Which why when the motors fail the wrist pin always locks up.

Win some lose some. Great video Bre. It shows the real world of what small engine techs go through daily. Customers still think a screw driver, crescent wrench, and hammer is all that is needed to work on this type of equipment. Oh and they must also think we have no bills to pay because they don't want to pay you for your services if the equipment isn't repairable or cost effective to do so.

Yea … I got one from a guy same blower … his mixture was terrible and he locked it up so he just bought another one and I gave him 100 cash and told him I would use it for parts … took my time with it one day and poured some marvel mystery oil down the spark plug hole let it sit a day … came back and fired that bad boy up worked great … sold it for 450 got good profit and also let the person know that bought it that it was locked up but I fixed it by freeing up the old piston so time may be limited … 2 years later it still works for him and he brings it to me for maintenance and I give it some hot oil (mystery oil) treatment once or twice a year for him … still picking the 9010 over any other blower tho just so powerful and saves a ton of time when you are a good operator

I've had one of these Magnum BR 800x blowers come to my shop last year, and the same issue, only worse. The owner's crew put straight gas in the tank and 2 days later, Wham ! I told the owner that I already knew what I would find if I opened up the engine and it would cost more in labor to do so. However, he said go ahead and make sure that it's as bad as you think. 😆 $150 in labor later and the cylinder, valves, piston were all toast. The crankshaft and bearings survived some how. Needless to say, it's sitting in a box for over a year now and the customer has not paid for the inspection labor. He said he paid over $900.00 for the unit. All I can say is, if you don't follow the instructions for your equipment, it will cost you big bucks later.

If the seize is not too bad you can break the piston free by filling up the cylinder with heavy oil and using a very long reach spark plug like a NKG BEHS type of plug used in a car engines. basically hydraulic ram effect, you need to remove all the air from the top before tightening down, have broken free a few soft seizes in my time using this method. Remember to run proper amounts of 2 stroke oil premix in your 2 stroke equipment.

After the epic ice storm in'98, I went to my friendly Husqvarna/Jonsereds dealer for some parts. There was a rack of chain saws in the shop, all looking brand new. The mechanic told me that everybody and their brother went out and bought saws to clear all the damaged trees. Every one of the saws was run on straight gas and seized up. No one read the owners' manuals. No warranty, just spare parts.

Great video Bre!! The BR 6,7,800's engine design gets really expensive once you get past regular maintanence. Bearings are unserviceable and a reseal (replace crankshaft seals and gasket maker for the pan) requires a good bit of labor. Removing the blower fan can be a bear also. Simplicity of the true two stroke blowers is much better for the long run. Ease of service, and rebuilds. I work on this stuff all day and I own a PB9010. Short block replacement for these 4-Mix units are only a viable repair if it's under warranty.

I have a 4-mix FS131, and I can't get used to that congested SOUND they make compared to a true 2-cycle. It starts right up and cuts great, but that sound makes me want to order the aftermarket parts and overhaul my 20 year old FS-85. The bottom end is fine (no excess play or noise in the bearings), but the cylinder and rings are worn so she's not compressing adequately. She's sitting in my toolshed for now until I get some time to work on her.

I would have tried some 'torchy love" on those stuck parts. A lot of times, the oil gets so hot that it cooks into a glue that can be loosened by the torch. Also, the piston pin is steel and with the piston aluminum, it would have expanded quite a bit quicker than the steel did with heat.

The best part about the Echo 8010 ( and 9010) is that Echo knows they built a blower that's longevity is compromised. Lucky to get a year from one when used commercially. 9010 not much better. But they are standing behind them with respect to warranty ( even months after the 2 years).

I love this blower😂, I only use it for my own driveway at my home. I know it's a commercial unit, and I don't care! It takes me two seconds to blow my small driveway off, I drain the non ethanol mix, and I run it until it turns off. Blame Chickanic! She got me loving this thing. Can't believe I spent so much money because I wanted to be part of the crowd!😂 I love this blower so much that I'm installing anti-scratch pads to her. This baby is going to be coddled and loved forever more. Make sure you use that Stihl oil in the mix, or else that brass washer thing will burn your entire engine.

Great video and.... excellent taste in slippers!!! I'm pausing the video to see if I'm guessing correctly here. Since you took the cover off and started trying to turn it and it made that squeak, I have been saying to myself.. It's the wrist pin failure. I have repaired probably a dozen of those in the BR600 and one BR800 in the last 8 months. It was a warranty repair by Stihl as they know is was a design flaw. Now, to continue the video and see if I'm right. EDIT: I was correct. What you are seeing is exactly what I was seeing with the wrist pin failures. I also just realized this video was posted a year ago so it's too late now to do anything about it but that would possibly have been a short block engine replacement under warranty by Stihl. Well, now you know. I know it had straight fuel in it when you dumped it out but the damage is exactly what I would see with the wrist pin failure so I'm sure that would have been covered.

Great video! I hope it gets ingrained in my mind each time I fuel up having a mixture of 2 and 4 stroke engines! Similar to when you get your car fuelled up and your household has a mix of petrol and diesel cars. I always pause, say to myself “ now what car am I in, what fuel am I about to put in”😂. I have a BR800C-E purchased from a dealer here in the sticks of Michigan and the first thing the salesman said, MIX! I'm just a large property landowner and I understood. I had this issue on a Stihl 600 blower I garbage picked. I used ATF mixed with gas- Fill the cylinder & let it soak overnight. Then disassemble the Cylinder & piston...used a bead hone on the cylinder & replaced the rings. Still going after 5 years of commercial use.

Sorry you were not successful i getting it fixed. This is a great reminder for folks about how important it is to know what your equipment needs for fuel and meeting the need. I use only non-ethanol fuel and Shindaiwa oil for my mix fuel. I also clearly mark the fuel cans so it is obvious to anybody using my stuff.

I worked on a BR 800 for the same reason as of running on straight gas. These are really a pain to take apart, really. Frustration! Besides that, the parts are insanely expensive. I changed the cylinder and piston with aftermarket parts and after around 10 hours it still running fine with very good performance. Aftermarket parts are about 1/3 of Stihl price... Can’t wait to sit down and watch, which reminds me. My father in law has a “2 stroke diesel tractor” ( think small farm tractor). Well it only ran for 2 years until he had to start using jumper cables straight to the starter, until he locked it up. Can’t tell him nothing. “ it doesn’t use oil, I just add it to the diesel” it ran like shit before it locked up. Well now he just bought a brand new kobota tractor. I wonder how long it will last .

I was a Husqvarna dealer for 8 1/2 years. A customer brought in a 61CC saw and said it stopped running. It had no oil in the gas. I filled the cylinder with Marvel Mystery oil and let it soak for a week. I flushed the cylinder with a fresh gas-oil mix. Installed the plug, filled the tank and it started right away, although it did smoke at first. It quickly settled down and I never heard from the guy again.

transmission fluid works great. used it to free up small engine or large engine. its viscosity lets it creep into tighter spaces better i put it in till it covers the top of the piston let it sit overnight. make sure if it does turn over to leave plug out to avoid hydrolock but ive saved many engines, on quads, dirt bikes, mower even cars with that. not a sure thing but worth a try.
