Honestly I do feel like people hate on him a little too much. He was trying, he just was caught up dealing with his son saying things that (at the time) seemed utterly ridiculous or impossible, and made decisions that ended up being the wrong call in the long run. Didn’t help that the entire town was basically mocking and hating on his son the entire time which added a deer in headlights effect. To put it simply, he was a flawed/inexperienced single father who was ultimately caught up in situations that were far from any traditional parenting handbook and made a lot of big stumbles as a result.
