Chicken livers are a wonderfully bloody bait that catfish love. They're drawn to it like metal is to a magnet. The trouble with chicken livers is how soft they are. It's touch to keep them on the hook long but there are ways to keep them from falling off too soon. In this video, Chris uses cured chicken livers that were dried in the sun and seasoned with salt and garlic powder. Much tougher to tear that off the hook.
Is there any more classic bait than nightcrawlers? In my opinion, no, there isn't. Nightcrawlers are amazing catfish bait. They're that natural bait catfish will devour if washed into the water from rain. Problem with nightcrawlers is almost every other species of fish and turtle will eat them. Sometimes, the hook will be picked clean by bluegill and turtles before the catfish have a chance to take the bait. That being said, it's hard to go wrong using nightcrawlers as your bait of choice.
