I'm here because I'm writing a university paper on the absolutely critical need for change and enhancement of UK animal welfare legislation for animals destined for the meat market. I assure you that I will be looking into and taking interviews from people like the lady featured who feels that keeping chickens in these appalling conditions where they have pecked the feathers from others and themselves (seen in chickens who are feeling extremely high stress levels) is "a wonderful way of rearing chickens" and will be reporting them as this goes against the UK Animal Welfare Standards, any guidelines from DEFRA and of course, the Law. This is so deeply upsetting. How dare anyone feel that rearing animals for the meat in a completely unnatural environment is justifiable. You should be ashamed.
@XavierAway2 жыл бұрын
I assume you're talking about the lack of feathers, this is not pecking from other birds, it's because they grow so fast they lose their chick downy feathers and become nearly adult size before they even grow their adult feathers. The chickens filmed here are half through there life but you probably weren't listening. They're bred this way because we want them for their fast growing (and therefore cheap) meat, not their feathers.

For as long as we're eating meat, this is going to happen. The reason why free range and Organic is affordable is because this is farming brings the general price down. The reason why we have so of this is because fast food chains need this level of farming in order to sell it's product, otherwise it would be only something saved for sundays or specials occasions, as it used to be. They r ill because they r genetically modified to grow to an abnormal 6-7 lb in a span of 6 weeks. They become so big they just drop and aren’t even able to walk properly. Most of these birds will break a limb because of the weight and even get heart attacks. Before the scientific days, real natural organic birds would only reach 3 pounds and would take months to reach slaughter stage.

Staying indoors my whole life, breed to be always happy hungry and lazy, in warm cozy conditions with a bunch of fellow zombies doesn't sound too bad to me. Putting those birds on an outside range, freezing, trying to be a chicken with normal instincts but bred to be lazy and unable to act on them, is more of a torture. I'm sticking with the cheapest chicken there is. Or beef. Just don't eat pork. Those animals are still smart, and they suffer.
@PopeUrbanX2 жыл бұрын
These animals have not been "bred to be always happy".They have been pumped with hormones and antibiotics so they can become plump birds ready to be reared at 2 months old,reduced to mere units of production.These animals bodies are so unnaturally large that they are the equivalent of a 2 year old child weighing 300 pounds.These birds never see their mother or sunlight.Broiler chickens bodies grow faster than they can handle causing them to suffer chronic pain throughout their short miserable lives.Broiler chickens often have difficulties walking and some suffer from lameness due to the massive weight of their bodies.Broiler chickens commonly suffer from osteoporosis,ascites,heart failure and lung failure due to their massive bodies.After 2 months when they are still babies they get sent into a gas chamber and get gassed to death by C02.C02 is a brutal way to die because the CO2 causes the chicken's eyes,nostrils,mouth and lungs to acidify causing the chickens to experience that they are burning from the inside out,the C02 isn't very effective and can take up to a minute before killing the chickens.Let's not forget that this is only how some of the chickens live.7 billion male chickens every year get tossed into a grinder on their first day of life due to them being economically unviable because they don't grow fast enough and don't lay eggs.The first and last moments of those baby chickens lives is spent being blended alive or being gassed to death on their first day of life. Chickens are also very intelligent animals that outperform babies and even toddlers in some cases.As you have said with pigs,chickens also suffer and when they are on factory farms the only thing they spend their lives doing is suffer.

There is to many chickens there to see if there is and suffering and none of these places are nice as some times when they are hatched the males will be instantly killed especially if they bred as egg laying birds... I have my own few chickens, I hatch my own eggs I will then leave them all grow outdoors when the right age to put them out and then use the cockerels as meat and keep the hens as layers it’s the best thing to do and I will feel my cockerels on none gm food, but I will give them a quality of life while they exist, they are outdoors grazing and scratching about in the weather and the meat tastes much better.

Indoor farming keeps them safe from bird flu and the likes.
