Richard, please implore Yohanna to appear more on your channel. I know you mentioned she's not totally comfortable but her experience is extremly valuable to this community. Not only in her roles on the farm that we do not get to see often but also her perspective as a female farmer, as a mother and your partner in the farm and life and the joys an challenges that comes along with that. I'm not an overly "girl power" type of person but there aren't many female farmers at her level that have access to this community and she is inspiring just from your commentary on what she does there at Ridgedale. Tell her she at least has a fan in me and I'm sure other female followers. Let's hear more from Yohanna!!

Amazing, even more so seeing "normal" pastures in the neighborhood. Thanks for a great field day - participation ought to be obligatory for farmers, farm students and politicians...

I'm getting sheep this year followed by more chicken next year to move on to a new pasture at my farm that has been neglected for decades. It currently has one sparse grass (bermuda) and two weeds (horse nettle and ironweed) and that is all that grows in that paddock. Right next to that paddock are two I've been restoring for the last two years that currently is up to about ten species, no dead spots, and grass up to my waist (the neglected pasture has grass only one inch tall). Two of my favorite things in this whole world are watch trees grow and pastures regenerate. Your fields are in a league of their own

banik I do too. If it’s something you really want to do you should work towards doing it. Life is too short to settle for something that doesn’t make you happy. I’m moving from San Diego to Tennessee so I can buy a small farm and get started at the beginning of next year. California is nice but I need a farm so bad I can’t stand it.

Jeremy Brown I wonder if you've tried to get the assistance of Agrarian alliance & other groups that help beginning farmers get favorable long lease arrangements in California and elsewhere? It helps ti keep the banksters out of the equation and with several years of successful operation there's some really helpful partnerships with coops, etc fir which you'll qualify. :)

Wow, your pastures look fantastic! I've been thinking a lot about getting some automation going with my hen house, at least have it open and close with the sun. That could help you get ahead of that time-game and the possible stress in the mornings.

So I'm confused about soil types. Richard are you saying that your clay field will become non-clay by just laying down the organic matter over the course of the coming years? If so where would the sand and silt particles come from? Or will it still be clay soil but 'diluted' with decomposed organic material therefore giving the soil a different texture and characteristic?

I use a 25-30 cm diameter log with wire for handle screwed in the ends at the centre of the log as a roller to flatten the tall grass before installing the electric netting. I guess that ribs, like ones on the roller-crimper used for no-till farming, would even improve the effect, but so far have not done this.

Richard could you tell me a reference for how you manage in winter with poultry and cattle? How can we maintain poultry for eggs and meat following cattle or horses in winter? Do you have other videos which show this or do you stop in winter with chickens? I’d like to employ some of these methods but in the states (Pennsylvania) we get dark cold winters and looking for insight

if your grass gets away from you - aka seeds up does it matter? from what i understand once it goes to seed head the nutritional value begins dropping but ive seen ppl say to cut silage on it (???) to mow it -(makes more sense as debris left on field) or to leave it ? so does it matter?

Hey Richard, Nice work. I have a question: we have 0.5 hectare available for grazing but is really poor/sandy soil and a bad gras quality. I want to do holistic grazing with chickens(tractor), how many times let you returns the chickens on the same place in 1 year? Many thanks. Greetings from Holland.

This guy is using the closed tripple backcross hybrid chicken Cornish X. This is unethical considering the bird grows so fast it compromises its feet, heart, and spine. The traits can not be reproduced from eggs by the farmer so it severs the farmer from means of getting uniform traits from eggs. It is a crime against the Plymouth Rock original heritage broiler chicken.
