My favourite all time loctician here on KZbin is Dxlyn locs. I like her more than Yannie the locologist. There is no nonsense about her, just technique and no products unless you ask for it yourself. I learned the hard way to avoid locticians (except KZbinrs) and I self-maintain for the most part. I'm 7yrs loc'd and I could tell you tales that would curdle your liver.

I only went to a loctician the day I installed my locs. The red flags were mad. He didn't know jack and he himself had breaking locs. Said I should only come to him to lock my hair, said he mixes cream for locs and Etc. Omo. I'm so glad I got to watch Yannie the Locologist's videos on KZbin. I learnt so much from her page. If not, I would have done all the things he said, which were wrong. I want to learn how to twist by myself.

Really valid points. I'm a few weeks off one year loc'd and it's been one of my best decisions, and I use a loctitian here in Lagos. I agree best person to care for your hair is ultimately yourself however to add to your points if you need a loctitian, make sure they are no gels/products/waxes and tell you to come for a retwist 2-3months or more. Keep up the great loc content!

I love you! I’ve been freeforming for 15 years and never been to a salon Like Bob Marley said “wash it and leave it” Conditioners are not for locs at all Black soap and maybe once a month acv with baking soda Water spray daily with some essential oils in your water spray No other products

My first few months of having locs, my loctician used shampoo and conditioner in my hair. I stopped going because I didn't want build up and my hair has been flourishing ever since cause I do it myself

Yea and ppl will not keep asking u what u mean even if they don’t understand. I tried to get my eyebrows done one time and wanted the lady to just clean them so they look cleaned up but not feminine and the lady had me looking like a whole drag queen. I had a barber cut off 3 months of work for my waves and I was pissed cause I worked on my hair for no reason since I lost all progress and I’ve had many other bad experiences I’m general. I do everything myself now and have semi freeform dreads that are free and not very time consuming. I only use a barber that I trust and don’t move around much

Lol Who are you going to for loc care? You do not have true loctician’s where you live lol I have locs for years and yes you would have some bad apples but this is why it’s important to research who you are going to before they put their hands in your hair. No one should be putting nooooooooooooo relaxers in your hair when you have locs. NO! She is not a loctician AT ALL! They people who are going to will destroy your locs… I do my own locs now but I have never been to anyone who didn’t have my best hair care in mind. Once I have a person I will continue to see that person for my locs. I don’t hop around. But all my true stylist that I ever had has been wonderful, helped my locs grow and gave me advice on caring for my locs. I don’t think it’s fair to include those out there that really take locs seriously. Those’s who are doing your locs are just in it for the money and don’t know a damn thing..Stop going to them. Lol
