Gotta love those engineers sitting behind a computer designing this stuff on CAD software. They should be required to assemble it afterwards to learn that people don’t have the ability to articulate their joints in the manner needed to place some of these nuts and bolts. You’re a patient man. Great job. It looks good.

Nice job. I stripped my front driver's side nutsert on the first go and had to have Jeep go through my headliner to replace it.. so BE CAREFUL threading that screw into the nutserts. That's my advice to others.

Alex, out of curiosity, how much did it cost you to have the nutsert replaced? I'd like to include that in the budget for "incidentals" as I look to upgrade my own rack setup.

@@iamkevinmccarthy they charged me $220 labor costs and $10 for a new nutsert based off $110/hr labor, but that's in Los Angeles, so labor costs will probably vary depending on where you're at. That was for 1 driver's side. If they needed to replace more it would depend. If it was front passenger as well I don't think it would be much more since the headliner would already be free up front, but if they needed to do the rear as well it might be 2X the cost.

I keep coming back to this video as I was torn between Chief RTT setup and Front Runner but I think I'll go Chief as it uses the 6'th unused nutsert under the OEM rails for additional strength. Do I recall that correctly?

Hey! love your video! I just got a Frontrunner Slimline 2 roof rack that i installed on my wk2 and planning on getting a RTT.. However i'm a little confused on the weight capacity.. some people say that you can't go over the manufacturers roof limit (which is around 150lbs for the wk2)... but that would kinda defeat the purpose of the RTT 😅.. so my question is this.. Does a roof rack actually increase the roof weight capacity ? have you noticed any damage to the frame of the vehicle after using the RTT on your jeep ? thanks! :)

How wide are the racks? I Just ordered a iKamper Mini 2.0 and they said the max racks for the brackets are 3.5".

Do these rails offload weight into the groove where the plastic strip is? It's hard to tell if weight is actually pressing down there or if all the weight is on those brackets on the roof.

I think we had the RTT version. It had two crossbars for the tent. A light bar would be doable but would have to be custom.

Great video! I'm looking at getting this rack for my rooftop tent to upgrade from my Rhino Rack rails. My worry is that the clamps Chief Products provides for the rooftop tent will put stress on the corners of the plates and damage/bend them. What is your experience? Have you looked at different mounting options using the T-channels? Like using Prinsu's '0.5 inch high feet' for example?

The clamps for the RTT are very thick and the width is just right to go around the planks. There's not much of a chance for them bending.

I’m curious, do you have any trouble with the shark fin picking up signals (Sirius or gps) when the tent is in place? I know Chief claims the rack won’t interfere, but wasn’t sure if the then would block signals.

It’s not as good if the tent wasn’t there but we haven’t had any issues with it.
