On the 0:03 "Corn Dog" (Tom and Jerry) play, there are legitimately at least 4 options: Option 1: If Bosa doesn't crash on McKinnon, he's open for a shovel pass, protected by a double-team block on each side. Option 2: Hardman (was wide open). Option 3: If Ward comes off Kelce to take Hardman, Kelce heads for the back corner of the end zone, Mahomes goes over the top to him. Option 4: If all of those are covered, Mahomes keeps.

Or you could just defend it with the right number of players on that side of the field. But alas, our DC is an idiot and the guy covering him wasn't even on his couch - we pulled him off a cruise with his family. lol Also, it was pretty stupid of the two linemen to be in the end zone. Other teams get called for that.

@@suitecmarketing8646 If you're talking about the Smith (65)+ Taylor (74) double-team, there's nothing to call. Because they engaged their blocks within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage, they're allowed to drive downfield so long as they remain engaged. As soon as they disengage, they stop moving downfield.

Loved the commentary, very informative and runs it all down for us simpletons. But, I have one huge disagreement. Mahomes 4th and 1 run was definitely a highlight. The Super Bowl was on the line. I'm sure it's not a highlight in how you're thinking about it, but it's definitely a highlight. Even if it wasn't "fancy", he got a yard and then some. He made the defense look like fools with all the yards he got. Championship on the line and he made the run look easy.

Fantastic breakdown of that brilliant audible at 12:50. Love it! On the discussion from 2:05 - 2:29, sorry, but I'm not able to follow the thread. Starts with "If this balls complete in bounds..." then concludes with "we're still gonna get a possession in the 2nd half"
@ThisGuyDrives

He simply misspoke. He meant 2nd quarter of OT. As in the game was not over. Because their possession of trying to score was not done, simply because the clock hits 0 in the 1st quarter of OT. The clock was basically irrelevant in this instance of OT. Both teams get a chance to score on first possession, no matter what the clock says.

You guys did a terrific job of slecting the critical plays to break down. I've been a Chiefs fan since the 2nd grade as I grew up just south of KC. There hadn't been much to cheer about in Chiefs Kingdom until they brought in Mahomes and while there are other great players on the team, especially the defense, he has been a difference maker. AND they somehow looked beyond all the negatives surrounding Pat before the draft and moved up to select him. They still need an upgrade at receivers, but they somehow got it done, again, without Tyreek.

Luv the content guys! Question - have y'all ever considered bringing on a non-football person to ask elementary football questions, that a non-football person might ask, regarding your film breakdowns? I ask b/c one question I had on this video deals w/ the last play y'all analyzed regarding SF being in the wrong protection scheme for KC's defense. My Question - If SF had changed the protection scheme would the pass routes have to change also or could you still run the same routes w/ same personnel?

It's not only about "change direction at 75% speed." It's also the MIND. He beat Bosa with a play fake. He doesn't run until the time is ripe and defenders' eyes are looking the other way, or just running or even leaning the wrong way, giving him room to run. Yeah, they could stuff Pacheco if they were laying for him, but also KC kept going to Pacheco, regardless of how little success he was having. It's more than just understanding opponent tendencies. It's building up tendencies in yourself that you can BREAK when the moment is ripe. Imagine the patience it took to keep different things they wanted to do under wraps all season long. A 2-2-7 on that last play you showed, and they didn't just hand it off and run it down KC's throat. Do you think the pre-snap motion of Justin Reid was what made the RG think "I got #20" in an inside-out blocking scheme, where he expect the RT to slide over and take Jones. You could see how he helped the C with the combo block and came off it to hit #20. If he goes over on Chris Jones right away, he's giving #20 a free run at the QB. One thing you need to mention about KC's exotic personnel packages is the confidence they have in the DB group. I think Steve Wilks got a bad rap, but the one thing that looked like a scheme breakdown was Bosa crashing inside on the play fake and running himself right out of the play. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, if you scheme another hat to mop up in the area Bosa vacated, because you WANT Bosa to trigger on the give to Pacheco. I suppose it's possible that Bosa just read it wrong and was trying to play hero ball, instead of maintaining discipline and setting edge. One of the things that SF fans were mad about was "all the cover-2" and "quarters" coverage, when you see that in spite of all the WR issues, KC still had two speed guys in Hardman and MVS. And even though the completion rate to those two wasn't super-high, especially on the deep ball, Mahomes was still going to take some shots. Betting on those shots was less a thing than betting against those shots on the other side of the ball, because just when you think you've got KC bottled up, Mahomes takes the shot. The "blueprint" for beating Mahomes for a couple years running, now, has been to deny those deep shots, with or without Tyreek Hill on the roster. Then they were mad at the cover-0. "You can't run cover-0, here!" I think maybe Steve Wilks got a bad rap.

McDuffy was trying to knock the ball down, not sack the qb. You can see him change his angle to get into throwing lane for where Aiyuk would be if he crossed (I say it would be because McDuffy couldn't see it) he then jumps to make it even more difficult for Purdy. Purdy doesn't use different arm angles, and he footwork was bad all game, so it was to take advantage of all of that.

KC Chiefs fans knew the OT rules due to fact that NE scored a TD in OT in the 2018 Championship game and won without Chiefs getting the ball back and the NFL did nothing until Chiefs beat Bills in OT the same way two years later. THEN they changed the rules because Josh Allen never got the ball back. Chiefs Kingdom know the OT rules!

They keep their 1st possession into the 2nd OT the clock was irrelevant because it was their 1st possession. So they would have been able to have 2nd and 3rd and goal in the 2nd OT to tie or win the game. One of the other plays that I thought lost the game for the 49ers is the one where they have like six of their defenders adjust to the Chiefs' offensive motion, and they're still trying to get set when the ball is snapped. I respectfully disagree with your analysis of the 49ers 2nd miscue. Even having the benefit of replaying it, I disagree. Purdy was loaded and ready to throw the slant to Aiyuk as he was looking over there at the snap. He just didn't throw the ball. Why? I have no idea. He had Aiyuk on the slant right away and the fact that Purdy was looking that way at the snap is a bad play by Purdy. Nothing special about the Chiefs defense on that play.

@kylebrown3949 What i take away from the entire video, like other videos on Mahomes and the chiefs, is that there is an imperfect understanding of the chiefs offence. The majority of success comes from the play design. Mahomes has a highlight reel of crazy plays, but it's about 10 minutes long. The rest of his career is crazy amounts of yardage after the catch. I'm pretty sure he has the record amongst qualifiers for the most YAC of any quarterback in history.
@LacSlyer
@LacSlyer 3 ай бұрын
@@TheShepdawg9 Guess you missed the part where they talked about Mahomes checking to a play in the 4th quarter that got them the first down easily. Mahomes makes that play because he checks to it because he sees the defense setup for it. If you think any QB can make that call you're absolutely crazy. The reason he's so good is because ha makes calls like that. I mean honestly, if you think their play design is all that's carrying them then why can't other teams in the league emulate it so easily?
@TheShepdawg9

If you can't be bothered to know the overtime rules, even if you're an ex-NFL QB, then nothing else in your video is worth watching. You lost all credibility with me. The Chiefs scored when there were 3 seconds left in the first quarter of overtime. If the clock hit zero before they scored, then they would have just flipped the field and started the 2nd quarter of overtime at the other end.
