This song was huge in New York !... We had completely different charts in the city on the radio stations.... We never went by Billboard or Cashbox.

but it was depressing in dallas. one radio station played this song on november 22, 1963--the day jfk died tragically.

Crazy to remember, but this was the song that was playing on KLIF AM radio in Dallas when the first bulletin broke in to report that shots had been fired at President Kennedy's motorcade.

It's almost impossible to listen without instinctively hearing that weird ear-piercing siren interrupting with "This KLIF bulletin... from Dallas three shots were fired...."

That's where I heard it too
@hebneh6 жыл бұрын
The news bulletin didn't actually say that JFK had been shot; that wasn't authoritatively known yet. All that was known was that shots had been fired. With no other facts to report, the station went right back into its regular programming, allowing the song to finish ("You've voted this number 36 in the instant Top 40!") followed by a Robert Hall clothing store commercial ("We're doing our Christmas shopping - at Robert Hall this year...") This type of thing would continue for minutes before KLIF finally went into non-stop reporting.

I've loved this song so much since I was a young child, and what I've leaned about it being in the soundtrack of the 1963 nightmare in Dallas, there's something that just thrills the imagination every time I hear it.

An innocent time right? I have a boyfriend. Like that’s what was cool during that time and then they kill Kennedy the way they killed him the whole thing is very fucked up. The late 50’s early 60’s very innocent time.

This is the Chiffon's most "Spectoresque" song, and very underrated indeed...it should have reached the top 10! Many emerging songs at the time met with less popularity and radio play due to the shroud of sadness that fell over our nation due to Kennedy's assassination. Another one was "Dumbhead" by Ginny Arnell.

This may have reached only number 36 on the charts , however in New York it was huge like all of the Ronettes songs, Not just Be My Baby!
