Taichi could easily have another girlfriend. For his own good he shouldn't focus so hard on Chihaya. IMO if Arata ends up getting Chihaya, Taichi needs to move away from them...end the friendship with Chihaya. No sense in torturing himself. Meet Arata in the car park, couple right hooks and make him spit teeth...kidding.
