Chikuhodo Top 10 Brushes: My Must Haves Reviewed and Demonstrated

In this video I am briefly reviewing my top 10 picks from Chikuhodo and discussing how I use them. Read the detailed write up of what I cover in this video on my blog or on the post I made to The Fude Subreddit.
Two of the brushes on this list are on their “rest rotation” and won’t be shown because I have them packed away and can’t easily retrieve them (I’m in the process of moving). I've had the whole Z series, retractable series and GSN series for about six years now, but took a hiatus when I got into cream products in a big way. Now, I'm missing my powders and your video has really reinvigorated my love and appreciation for the work these brushes do. Your video is the most informative source online (anywhere!) on how to best use these brushes - and your detail on the multitasking along with your own personal approaches to using them have got me so excited for the morning as I'm definitely going to load up my lip brush to take out with me, ombre my blush and use my Z-1 as that finishing brush you suggested! Thank you so much for making this video!:D I found you last year I think on Instagram and have purchased many brushes because of you;p I have the Z4, RR-C2, Z1 and the MK-1 even though I have oily combo skin lolol I will make it work so I can enjoy squirrel powder brushes as well! Thankfully the weather will cool down soon so that I can thoroughly enjoy the Z1 and MK-1. I am A LOT darker than you (Lancome Idole Ultra 520) but the Z4 and the RR-C2 have easily become some of my favourite blush brushes because having dark skin I have to use very pigmented blushes so that the colour can actually show on my skin like NARS and MAC blushes. But since I've bought those 2 last year, I never have clown cheeks anymore especially with my NARS Exhibit A blush lololol I also just ordered the PS-1 and the RR-P1 from CD Japan and hopefully will love them too. Please keep posting brush videos here on KZbin!

Hi, thank you for fantastic review! I saw another KZbinr saying that the squirrel hair brushes aren’t suitable for oily or combination skin, do you think that’s so? According to her the brushes will spoil faster.. it does t really make sense to me as even with dry skin one would still use foundation and cream products under the powder, but I haven’t actually tried the squirrel brushes for the face yet, so would really appreciate your thought on this please :)

I scrolled through all of your videos.... I may have missed it? Have you done a rating video between all the brands you own? I’m sure it will be hard to rate but I’m curious. I stumbled across a luxury brush video last week and last night, I made an 18 brush order from Hakuhodo. I figured it would be a great investment as I would use them most days. It’s my “me time”.... Your videos are very informative and now I wonder if I’ve made the best decision on brand. I always second guess myself😅

Hakuhodo is a solid choice! I cant really say what the best choice would be every the brush models and offerings between brands are so different. I have not make a rankings of brands. I occasionally rank hair in between brands but I've never ranked brands as a whole. It's like trying to pick a favorite between cotton, wool and silk. They all have different properties but I adore them all.

Yelena Z. Thanks for sharing!! I have been using Johnson & Johnson shampoo-and-conditioner (2in 1) but it struggles a little at washing my eyeshadow fude.

@@quyennguyen9797I also use bioderma for what i know will be very stubborn pigments (most purples, blues, pinks, gel eyeliner). I'll start with bioderma in a dish, tap and rub to get MOST of the pigment out, repeat a couple times if needed and follow with the blender cleanser soap.

To be completely honest I've been using the clarisonic with the makeup brush head almost exclusively. It's truly that good with any formulation. DM me if you want regular brushes and let me know what foundations(s) you use as that will affect my recommendations list. Cheers!

Very informative. Thanks for sharing. I just discovered your channel and Fude brushes in general. Which of the Chikuhodo MK powder face brush is closest to the Z1? I read/watched some reviews that said some of the MK face brush is not as soft/dense or has longer bristles than the Z1. I love the MK handles and would like to treat myself to one. Also, I also read that the squirrel face powder brushes shouldn’t be used to apply setting powder after liquid foundation and only to be used for finishing powder? Also, what is your thought on the Chikuhodo FO fox series! I’m also considering the face powder brush from that series, thinking that it may be more resilient than squirrel for use with setting powder (over liquid foundation). I like to press and roll, not so much buffing. Keep up a good work!

There is no brush that is closest to the Z-1 in the MK series. it's completely unique, even among other brands that have round gray squirrel powder brushes. I have a video planned next week to compare the MK1, MK 2, MK-MO, Z-9 and Z-1 next week so stay tuned for that "squirrel face powder brushes shouldn’t be used to apply setting powder after liquid foundation and only to be used for finishing powder" yes. stick to this recommendation I dont own any of the FO series yet. Why not consider a goat brush for setting powder? goat can still be super soft. If you like to press and roll, i would recommend a good old beauty blender or one of the following brushes which are extremely dense and act like puffs that are phenomenal for press and roll, not so much for buffing. Thanks for your recommendation on the goat brushes! I’ll check it out. I prefer brushes to BB and puffs, just find it easier to use. Can’t wait for your new video. It’s so hard to figure out brushes online trying to figure out sizes, density and softness. I love it when you compare different ones against each other. Thanks again!

I would get in inexpensive flat foundation brush and play with it first. I personally prefer round flat top or domed foundation brushes because of their blending ability. I do have flat foundation brushes like the g12 that I reach for, but not frequently. What is the foundation that you use regularly? And what coverage level do you aim for?
