Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, mainly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. It causes sudden onset of fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and rashes. Joint pain can be debilitating and last for weeks or even months. There’s no specific treatment for Chikungunya; symptoms are managed with rest, fluids, and pain relief medications. Prevention focuses on avoiding mosquito bites and controlling mosquito populations. The disease is most common in tropical and subtropical regions.
