In the Dooars, Alipurduar district of West Bengal, India, a dense forest called the Chilapata Forest is located next to Jaldapara National Park. It is only a short distance from Hasimara town and roughly 20 kilometres from Alipurduar.
In the Dooars, a lush forest called the Chilapata Forest is close to the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. Recently, Chilapata has gained popularity as a tourist attraction. With the approval of the forest department and in the company of an authorized guide, you are permitted to embark on a visit. Since the trip is only about 15 kilometers, Chilapata can easily be visited as part of a day-long sightseeing tour from Jaldapara. The "Nalraja Garh," or fort of the Nal monarchs, is the main draw of Chilapata. The Gupta era, when the The fort was constructed in the fifth century during the Gupta era, and even though it is currently in ruins, it is of immense archaeological significance and serves as a reminder of India's glorious past. One-horned rhinos, a sizable population of elephants, bison, deer, and leopard, smaller cats, cheetah, sambar, barking deer, wild boar, etc. can all be found here among the animals. The principal route for elephants between the Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR) and Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS) is through the nearby Chilapata forest. A modest vehicle drive or bike ride in the forest is really a beautiful experience because of how dense it is. A 24 km trip through the deep Chilapata forest connects Sonapur Chowpathi with the Gurudwara in Hasimara. Daily bus and other vehicle services are available. If you're lucky, you might spot some wild animals along the forest road. The Nal Rajar Garh, also known as the Fort of the Nal Kings, is one of Chilapata Forest's key draws. It is thought to have been constructed during the Gupta period (The Golden age of India). The ruins are still present here, despite the archaeological department's poor upkeep of the area. One of the most popular tourist attractions in the Dooars is the vehicle safari in Chilapata Forest. The main area where one-horned rhinoceroses are most likely to be is along the CC line. The one-horned rhinoceros are most frequently spotted in the afternoons along the CC line. Standing at the CC line watchtower, one can take in the smooth rhinoceros movement. You can visit the adjacent Mathura Tea Estate for a tour of the tea gardens and to engage in traditional activities with the Rabha Tribal Community. Here, you can find animals like leopards, one-horned rhinoceroses, wild pigs, peacocks, elephants, and monkeys, as well as more than 20 species of predators and herbivores, 175 different kinds of birds, and 22 species of reptiles. This area is undoubtedly a hidden gem for biodiversity. There are still a lot of species in Chilapata Forest that have not yet been identified.
