Some people who prey on others who seem to be vulnerable and harmless are lurking night and day. Such people are so dangerous that they are as strong as the devils themselves. Seems like it's less him trying to change the subject and more him being made uncomfortable after you told him all about how two kids around his age got kidnapped and abused. I know you want him to be safe, but maybe don't be so morbid about it. Also, I wasn't a fan of how the mom and that other woman (his aunt?) were so cold towards this kid after he'd gone through such a traumatic event. It would've felt even grosser had the kidnapper actually DONE something to him while he had him...

My son is 5 years old. My parents got him a cell phone on their plan, but I think a cell phone is too big and hard to grab from his bag pocket in case of an emergency. Anyhow, I got him a smartwatch on my plan at T-mobile and I have an app on my phone to silence it to school mode, etc. He wears it everywhere and I can live track his location and it's 100% accurate. Sadly, he called me twice from school when he got hurt during recess and a monitor refused to take him to the school nurse when he was bleeding from his eye. She didn't know I was listening on the open line after he went over to ask her again. I reported to her. Unfortunately, the school disliked me for being an advocate for my son and wrote an email to all parents that they can't use smartphones or smart watches and that they should keep them in their bags. I let him keep the watch in his pocket just in case.

I don't have kids and have never been married. But my brother and sister had kids who went on to have kids of their own. I currently have one Great Niece and three Great Nephews (with another on the way). I really think they're all great. but I sometimes worry about what kind of country (or world) we're leaving them. I agree that one kidnapped kid is one too many, but most of the kids who are reported missing each year are either runaways (i.e. they left home voluntarily) or abducted by family members (or someone the child and/or family trusts) instead of strangers. I agree that kids and parents need to stay vigilant, but there are more good than bad people in this world. It's just that the bad get all the attention.

I would actually say, parents explain why you have the rules. Explain the danger. Not just enforce the rules. Show examples. Kids if you have parents who care know that they have rules for a reason. Try to hear them out. But only to the kids who have parents who care. That's what the movie Matilda taught me. The difference between parents who care and the ones who do not.

This episode has been shown as a reminder that taking this life for granted may lead to being grabbed, even harmed, so that the victim cannot resist one's attacker. That is the strength of the demons flourishing in the mind of a bloodthirsty killer. Yes, people who are mean, cruel and vicious who seek to rob, steal and kill, may well be considered as bloodthirsty, and they are among us. "Children, obey your parents, in all things for it is pleasant in the sight of the Lord." Colossians 3:20.
