So Many Initial Comments - I have Added a HD & Colourised Version Details Below
I just love this rare find… Well, rare to me at least. I know the narrative many will find most upsetting as I did initially but on reflection one has too take into account how many of us have unconsciously hurt those who love us the most. Not realising for many years… Possibly until we become more conscious as we develop as human beings! I feel that’s what these parents will come to realise as they grow in experience. I think it was a great piece of artistic work from the creators, writers and actors alike. Especially the young Sharyn Moffett - Roberta aka Bobby. Her performance was nothing short of sensational in my humble view and from her character’s point of view she has a blessing in her room mate whom had already transitioned from the initial hurt of her parents divorce and then being placed in a school for girls. Now she’s living life coming to terms with the fact she’ll now have to look after herself and she receives twice as many presents from having two sets of parents! She will be of great aid and comfort to Bobby moving forward and even encouraging her to trial for the basketball team… Bless

I don’t know who got to live in these beautiful homes with servants in 1946 but I think it was upper middle class, just like today. That little girl’s room was my dream as a child but in a loving home with loving parents . ❤ I remember having one matching dress with my mom that was purely accidental and no one ever commented on it. So cute though. I didn’t know in 1946, divorce was so prevalent. My mom who was born in 1934, made it sound like divorce was thought of as shameful or an embarrassment. And having a kid out of wedlock.

Children suffer the most pain in a divorce. The parents enjoy their mates, and they go on with their lives. Children of divorce, have a story to tell.

Some children do better after divorce. One parent or the other being extremely abusive for example. Life isn't cookie cutter.

Extremely heartbreaking yet true story about the children of divorce. Our society has gotten so self centered and it sadly doesn’t take into consideration the well being of our children as much as our own selves Our children are our FUTURE and we have allot of hurting neglected children. God bless all the children of divorce

It shows in this picture anyway how once they put her into a home for girls they pretty much kicked her to the curb and like has been said the children have to try to survive on their own. Try to make sense of the abandonment that they now live with, is horrible for them. This picture really shows that and the suffering that kids, endure, and so many of them live with that all their lives

Putting children away in boarding schools is the ultimate betrayal of family relationship and its a dysfunctional culture which carries through generations with everlasting damage to individuals.

"Why can't she see it our way?" Ummmmm...because she's eight and all the adults blew up her life? Heartbreaking. The real little girl - Sharyn Moffett - lived little Bobbie's dream. She got married, had three children and was with her husband for more than fifty years, until his death.

Sometimes though parents not being divorced can do the child even more harm living in constant bitching and anger on a daily basis. 😢

Well, that was convenient for both of them, wasn't it? What luck that they could afford to send the poor child away to boarding school, so they didn't have their new lives disrupted too much by her unhappiness!!! She's definitely better off without those two!!!

Parents forget how much kids can suffer in a divorce. I would have loved boarding school as a child.

Even back then, a beautiful home, a maid, doesn’t have to work, devoted husband, working hard to support family. She has nice clothes. And because he was away too much and she got lonely. If they had taken Bobby to counseling they would have known how much she missed her dad. I really think in this case, the judge should have asked her who she wanted to live with. The stepdad should know it was a package deal. He had no idea initially how close she was to her father. I was also closer to my dad and if they had ever divorced I would have wanted to live with my dad. Sometimes I think it’s personality. Too bad the dad was quick to dating. It would have given bony time to heal to just have her dad. At the same time, as Joan moved on, the father wanted to as well. And if Bobby got too comfortable, she’d never accept anyone her dad dated. If I were the dad, I would probably sacrifice that until she graduated high school. The divorce really affected her.

What a horrible movie. Mom and dad take off with new lovers and stick the kid who they're all tired of in a home because she's the one wrecking their lives. They really really don't want her , neither of them and make no bones about admitting it instead of giving her time and helping her adjust . Such a sad movie.

Depressing movie. The divorce wasn't what was depressing though....(Spoiler next): The fact that both her parents abandoned her was the depressing part. 😵‍💫☹

Kids can be so cruel. But at the same time if name calling is all they dealt with compared to today’s bullying and school shootings.

Those were some selfish parents! Especially that momma! That lady had no business coming over to her dads house on the first day that she saw him. I really didn’t like this movie! It makes me mad how they treated their own child

Abandoned child has already been damaged mentally and permanently. Why do you think psychologists and psychiatrist is booming business. The divorce is only the catalyst how it's consequences are managed is proof in the pudding.
