From the age of 5-18 I was molested by my step father who had taken me in as his own. I thought it’d be over when my mom divorced him due to his abusive alcoholism when I was 13 but instead I stayed with him in that house of horror and suffered every single day for hours on end until mom took me and my brother back with her. They had joint custody so we stayed with him every other weekend causing me to suffer even more. At age 14, I was almost a school shooter, arrested for my shameful thoughts at the time. I am now 21, a United States Marine, and barely spoke out about my story 6 months ago. Now finally trying to start a new life and take everything back that I deserve.

I feel so sorry for this lil girl, her brother, and also their adoptive parents. Ill never be able to understand why or how someone could abuse babies and kids! It makes me so sick and people like that shouldnt be allowed to have kids AT ALL! She is very lucky that she was adopted by that couple cuz they got her the help that she so desperately needed and they didnt give up on her or give her back to DHS like so many couples do when they adopt an abused child like her. My heart goes out to them!

Actually if you see the documentary this film was based on you would know why everything happened the way it did. Kat and the family was based on Beth Thomas and her foster family. She did get help even though she did have to go through intensive therapy she got better. She has some attachment disorder or something because her dad molested her when she was 1. Thats why shes like that. Trauma. At the end of the real documentary she finally felt remorse for her actions. I suggest you watch the documentary before or after watching this cause it explains a lot its really short about maybe 27 minutes. Its really good and on youtube.

As disturbing and difficult as this movie is to watch, it’s also very educational. It shows viewers what can happen to a child who is severely abused or neglected at a young age. Many times they grow up to be children with attachment or bonding challenges which can completely affect their quality of life. It sort of helps to create more awareness about the psychological scars child abuse leaves behind with victims.

The way the girl is potrayed in this movie . Well, really the whole family is way off. The little girl in the movie corrected herself alot and changed what she said so she could seem innocent . Beth never corrected herself . She didn't know right from wrong . She had to be taught it .
@Avarcirith12 жыл бұрын
This is a case of the classic nature v. nurture argument. I think most can agree that the crimes committed against the girl are primarily to blame for how she turned out, but one can also not ignore the countless children who undergo such horrors yet do not turn out this way. It could be that there was some sort of evil tendency already in the girl, which would likely have been kept dormant had it not been for the way she was poorly treated. Either way it'll always be debatable.

Thank you for uploading. I enjoyed the movie. The problem was that the parents were cast in a sugar disney plastic mold to make the child look as evil as possible. If they had had a few faults like the rest of us, they would have been more credible - but that was probably never intended by the director. I wonder if the psychologist's method is real?

I know. I saw the documentary before this & it states that she was 19 months (as in 1,5 yrs old) & Jon was 7 months old, when their adoptive parents were told they're available & the mother said they arrived quickly. But my point was that the adoptive father told they'd had the kids with them for about couple of months before they even began to learn about their backgrounds and their past. Like in this film, they had to use several sources to learn the background. That's insane adoption policy,

I saw this when I was a sophomore in High School. No our teacher didn't show it in class. I saw it on TV. I remember seeing the TV trailer for it and I decided to watch it. When I went to college few years later in my Psychology class talked about it. I wonder how the REAL LIFE Beth is doing. She would be in her 30's and have a family of her own by now. I personally don't believe in the holding and provoking with insults and name calling treatment. There's a psychiatric medical research done one this bulling method and it's have proven to traumatize and torment the child. Especially children that mentally disabled with autism or other type of mentally disturbed children which this practice is stilled used in private special need schools. There's other ways in handling a child without pinning them down and provoking them! This method causes PTS to children with that mentally disturbed to the point they never recover from it! This is child abuse or disabled abuse when used on a disabled child or adult at its worse. This type of method when dealing with children with issues or mentally disturb children need be ban and if caught using it on a child or disabled child/adult; they should be charged with FELONY CHILD/DISABLED ABUSE!

This is so sad. Poor babies. I watched the documentary. I am glad to see that she overcame this issue as much as possible and is a seemingly healthy adult with a family of her own. I was trying to find information on her brother and found something stating that he was in prison. I hope that this is not true about the brother. The captions are funny how they translate sometimes. @9:23 when the little girl is praying, instead of "we thank him for this food." the caption reads "God is great and God is good and we funking for this food." 😂😂

I wonder about the case this is based on (very losely and tamed down apparently), that the adoptive parents didn't know the childrens' past. How is it even possible to adopt a child without knowing their history or some version of it? (I've heard of a case in which the adoptive mother was lied to. But at least she was told something.) But in Beth and her brother's case, the adoptive father said they looked into the kids' backgrounds AFTER Beth started to show violent and disturbed outbursts.

Beth actually healed and became a very loving person..
@SiriusConcern12 жыл бұрын
Ya, you'd think people would look into the background of children before even considering adopting them. But also, the agency is also in fault for not telling them straight away. I'm sure they probably thought that they may not get adopted with their background, or maybe they were too young to be impressed. But nonetheless, they're at fault and the parents should have looked into it in the first place.

But she was 1. She didn't love anyone, not even herself. She didn't even know what love was, but she knew pain and fear. And what other ways were you hurt? it'll never go away. Exactly, she just didn't know how to cope the right way, so she found happiness in hurting others. Did you know she was touched by her dad too? PTSD (What does that mean xD) Yes, she needs help, and more than a lot because of her behavior, but she's still an innocent child in more fear than she can handle.

There is an evil tendency in everyone. It is not equally strong in everyone, but I'm of the philosophy that there are no novel human traits--we all possess a certain amount of aggression, sadism, and fear along with courage, affection and empathy. Whether a person ended up that way because of nature or nurture is less relevant than what to do about it in the here and now.
