Love this. On the point of "get over it and do it" it reminds me of when I played high school football. I was in the weight room lifting my freshmen year and my muscles were burning and I wanted to put the weight down or have someone take it from me. My coach got in my face and screamed "It's supposed to hurt." I sat in this coach's office months later and cried because I wanted comfort and wanted to go home and I was tired of running laps in the rain and throwing up and again my coach got in my face and said "I wanted to quit when I was in college, married, had 2 kids, 2 jobs and no money. You know what, if you want out, you gotta fight your way out. Be bigger than the pain" that was a turning point for me where I went from literally crying in the pain to shouting and laughing like a psychopath in the weight room and field. A switch had to get flipped. So thankful for that. 18 years later when the pain of life sets in, when I don't want to work 12+ hours to further the business, when I don't want to do the paperwork for the bills, when I don't want to put the work in with that difficult friend, I grit my teeth and laugh. It's not about making the pain go away. You have to to be bigger than the pain.

Leaving home at 18 and joining the military was easily the most important thing I did. I look at friends and family members who never grew up and still continue to do the same things they did in their 20s, partying, living at home and going back to their parents because they can’t handle their expenses. They are just unable to become the adult they should have been 15 years ago. Great video because it absolutely needs to be said to many people.

Yeah I didn’t get hit by this until I was working, my life was weird, work sucked and I was crying about it, hating it and hating everyone in it and then I got into the 16 personalities and I learned more about myself and my insecurities and my problems and I realized that all of the problems I had with work were caused by me, and as soon as I went back with that new perspective, I was a different person, even everyone noticed, and I now love my job, and I no longer find it my enemy, it’s my savior.

I keep thinking about all those shows and movies a lot of people grew up watching, me incuded, about holding onto the Innocence of youth, kids fighting adults and winning, telling them off for not caring about the NF bigger picture and worrying about shit like bills or work...so why if you're brainwashed like that do you wanna grow up? Not many people would if that's what it looks like. In a way, it brainwashes you out of taking your power back because you don't want to become what you hate. What a big fat lie. I for one didn't have a ton of good examples of what a capable adult was growing up, now all I want is to be an example of how awesome it is to be in charge of your own destiny. Thanks for the video, growing up shouldn't be so controversial of a topic. (Edit: typo)

I once asked the smartest man I’ve ever met in all of my lifetimes “What is the purpose of the father?“ He answered “To rip the child away from the mother.“ All you say about rights of passage is true enough. And, we live in probably the most under-fathered generation in human history. It’s a major problem.

So the whole world needs boot camp, eh? Trolling? Child crushing? fucking hell... With all due respect, and I have much respect, I'm telling you from the future, as I have about a decade on each of you, that is not sustainable. It's exhausting. The whole world is not Goggins, and that kind of "good" pressure works on maybe one or two in a million. That is why we know folks like him by name. There are reasons why we a wired the way we are. You know this! there, all insightful, tag teaming the personalities... You have a very unique perspective, and see things that I cannot from where you sit. Yes. and Indeed, I have learned a great deal. You are on to something about personalities and the human condition, but bruh. Lately... idk . This pandemic emphasized just how close we are to not being. ( And not from a gazing out of my window instagramey sort of way. ) It almost got me. Covid nearly took me out. So I am seeing things with new eyes. From where I sit, We get our 24 hours each day. We may make the next 24 or we may not. One can bitch about your hours on this earth or live them out. I was in such disbelief that I may never leave my bed again in this life. You know, all the cliches', floating fever dreams. At one point I was low low saturation, terrified, basically dying, I started thinking of the next bit. I had not laid eyes on my sons, so I was wondering craziness, like can I see my sons after I am gone? Just thinking craziness. I came out of it a different person. Now I would never waste precious time dwelling on this sort of hopelessness in an exhausting fight of me against me. In the end, default programming takes over. We are one breath away to the next bit, but painting life black is a waste of resources and no way to be.

It's interesting in what ways you become an 'adult' when growing up in traumatic situations, and then what others ways you stay a naive child. I think the one thing I had early on was an adult's perspective on expectation management + a lack of outcome entitlement. Not expecting anything to be handed to me. When something goes wrong, accepting it and figuring out how I need to move forward from here. But in so many other areas of my life I'm still a naive child who can't face up to certain realities yet.

After the tidal wave hit me, I'm still finished college in 10 years.. I think I still have the same blindspots but I don't know what is it exactly.. So what if it was because of someone else? It is really a chaos to figure out. But I get what you guys mean. The hero's journey. Except that's from a TE perspective and I don't have that. On a deeper level, you need coordination on a global scale. As you can imagine, the effort to undermine this coordination had long been underway. What it not been so, there would not be a war for anyone to fight. But history teaches us so we don't repeat it.

I split into 3 categories: Child - others have responsibility to me Adult - I am responsible to myself Ealdorman - I have responsibilities to others I use Ealdorman, as I dislike the term "Parent" in this context. But the progression from child to parent reflects this continuum well.

ok , i ask one question : why live ? if life ends up being just endless fighting , every single day , why keep living like that till our death , just to enjoy a small break between "fights" , it's depressing imo , as someone who probably dipped it's feet in it it just feels awful ...
@5idi
@5idi 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they exaggerated. I mean, that can actually scares more than encourage. I didn't find anything in this world worth investing in for 18 hours a day, 8 months, not even the things I enjoy. I guess it helps some people... But overall, analyzing your own behavior and finding where you CAN grow up is actually useful and will make you proud of yourself.
@5idi
@5idi 3 жыл бұрын
@Kosher They do try to help and their message is good, it's just the way it's presented. Many people - the more sensitive ones - can react very bad. Even their example - those who fought the Nazis - were they ALL happy and proud? For many of them it was too much to live with. But the message itself is legit: analyze yourself. You might have been raised wrong or even abused and it's not your fault how you are today, but you have the power to improve it. See what battles you CAN win, and you'll surely be proud and relieved once you're through it. Overcoming at least some of your fears, dependences and weaknesses IS bliss. I like your approach. Balance and solace is my direction too.

Why does the world have to be that way Theoretically, if we all have opposite personalities among us, why can't we create a system of working such that "you do your saviours, I'll do mine"? That way, everyone has something to offer and can focus on mastering their saviours even more

I love you guys. But we're never going to see eye to eye on this one. The "complain" energy still means expressing your demons, no? "I desire this thing." It's FAR better to be a complaining idiot than to refuse to share your demons. Babies will grow up. Removing yourself from life is a fucking bastard to undo.
@dylonias
@dylonias 3 жыл бұрын
Been thinking about this. The "child" in my mind is like your #2 in the journey - a kid that wants to be adult. If you can do that, take responsibility for it, and still express pain, you can become the adult. Language is problematic. I hear you say "child" and I think "BAD," which isn't the way to do it. No child is purely a complainer. Neither is any alpha adult free from child energy. And you'll really fuck yourself up by not telling your owies out of fear of being labeled a "complainer" or a "child." That's basically it. "Child" should not equal "complainer." The hero has both identities and balances them. Don't Ni my childhood, bro.

well i think actually there is. there are lots of rites but they are not treasured anymore. think of churchs communion or confirmation (age 14) or the a-levels in school (age 18). you could interpret it like that, right? I think the key point is to make it your responsibility to demand respect from others. they don't know you want to be an adult because it's special nowadays. and the bad thing is- if you are always treated as child of course you will stay one. but don't let yourself be laughed at when all you try to do is being an adult. because for many you are a big role model already. ;)

They are saying that we are less than what we should be, i.e. that we are children and need to become adults. But look at our situation. We evolved from primitive creatures in a gigantic confusing universe that features pain, restriction, and death. And we have glands pumping drugs into us 24/7. Also, we were given no instruction manuals for our bodies or this planet. Despite all of that, we have developed huge amounts of knowledge, built incredible cities, and travelled to the moon. Individually, we study for 10 years, raise kids, work for 40 years, operate complex technology, and help strangers. We are awesome! Dave and Shan are just channelling society's negative view of human beings, inherited from ancient times when people were clueless. It's time for us to step back and re-evaluate our motivations, assumptions, and contexts. I'm tired of thought leaders who behave like zombies by being unwilling to question obvious illusions.
