Jenny Lindroos, MD, University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway, discusses the findings of her cohort study looking at childbirth and neonatal outcomes in a nationwide myasthenia gravis (MG) cohort. To look at the risks at childbirth in a maternal MG population, nationwide data was studied that encompassed all live births in Norway 1999-2022. It was found that the rate of elective C-section was doubled in patients with MG compared to those without MG, but risk of emergency C-section was not increased. Notably, only 4% of children born to mothers with MG in this study were reported to have transient neonatal MG (TNMG). However, 38% of MG-exposed children were transferred to the NICU, compared to 10% of unexposed, suggesting underdiagnosis of TNMG. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
