Lightness of touch is their thing. “You Could Be Different” and “Right Beneath Me” crossbreed shoegaze and chillwave in a lilt of effectssoaked guitars and gauzy synths, singer Ben Romans-Hopcraft’s vocal veering between tippy-toes falsetto and a King Krule-ish mumble that would have teacher demanding he speak up a bit, please. “Falls Away” is a sun-dappled take on The xx’s pallid soul, “Solemn Skies” a decent stab at Primal Scream jamming. Elsewhere it can feel a little slack-jawed, its dreaminess concealing slight lack of substance.
