the passion and emotion behind this track. he has so many pent up thoughts and repressed them for so long that this song has haunting yet beautiful vocals at the end because that’s the only way to let it out. i can’t help but feel the pain and fear of losing his son, and this song is so complex and just amazing. Donald Glover is a musical genius, and i hate to see him retire so soon. i love this being personal, and it helps give perspective on a father losing his son.

We see lots of people saying this isn't rap, it's risky, they don't like it, etc, etc. After all, rap has always been inspired by Funk and Soul music, using their samples over time. For me, Donald Glover is only going back to the roots and showcasing his versatility as well as good taste in music. One last thing, I believe he is going to reach a whole different set of audience with this album. Such as fans of Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq and so on. Well, I hope it's a good bet on his part!

I like the outcome of this album it personally made a shift in my life. I love this album entirely. Its been 8 years since it released and there is no Childish Gambino after Donald said its not fulfilling being Childish Gambino along with problematic thoughts or opinions he shared through his career idk kinda disappointed but doesn't ever change the fact how genuine and good this album was. Its too beautiful this why I own it as vinyl.

Forget everything you heard from Gambino before. All the rapping and funny lines. Forget it. Act as if this is a completely different person that you have never heard before, and I can almost guarantee that you will enjoy this album. I think we have this expectation of Because the Internet and Camp, and we try to make those the judging stick. Also, I think most people who enjoy Gambino's music are between like 16-30. So a lot of us aren't used to this kind of Funkadelic / Jimi Hendrix / Prince sound, because it's just not from our time. I had the luxury of parents always playing that music in my house but some don't. So I also suggest going back and listening to some old school funk and soul and rock from the 60s and 70s. I think it'll help appreciate this album even more. Because as a Gambino fan, I can honestly say that I love this more than his rapping. The whole sound and groove of this album is amazing. And Ik it's early but I think this might be my favorite album from him.

Agree with your POV Jumar, Many rappers get scrutinized because all their music begins to sound the same. nothing by Gambino has really sounded the same since he came out. yea he got styles he pulled almost straight from the funk era, but i think its refreshing and unique to have his own interpretation. it makes me think this whole album was inspired by how well his fans received that interlude track on Because the Internet entitled "Urn" which i will listen to on repeat all day.

jumar moffatt me in a nutshell, when i listened to the album the first time, i was disappointed due to the lack of rap. but once you shed the expectations of hearing him rap, give it a few more listens, the vibe will come then

Don't take my baby boy Don't take my pride and joy I hope I stay close I hope I stay close All the pain, all the tears Many nights, many years This love for me is fading You waited, but I never came home to you I've never lied about us We were never supposed to be together When you see me with some other one and they know your son Oh, please don't take him away You said you're wrong but you knew Oh, cause I had my doubts, oh! Don't take my baby boy Don't take my pride and joy I hope I stay close I hope I stay close There was a time before you, and there will be a time after you With these vibes or not Walk tall little one Walk tall, walk tall Let me hold you Let me hold you
