@TankTheTech3 жыл бұрын
The sound itself may be original, as in they didn't edit anything to fix wrong notes and stuff, but professional DVD releases like this are always mixed and mastered afterwards. In the credits of the DVD itself, they have mixing (Mikko Karmila) and mastering (Mika Jussila) engineers listed along with someone separate who did the live recording (Hans Ostlund).

I have seen cob many times in the 2000s and tbh. they never convinced me live. (I like their studio work a lot!) Alexi used to say that the drinking etc. esp. in this time never affected the performances, but thats not true ! What I have heard about the last years is that alexi was more professional on tour and that the quality improved. but just hearsay, I havent seen them for a decade. we all know that drinking and excessive behavior is part of the whole thing. but I think that artists also have the responsibility "to be in shape" for a good performance. it´s a thin line and cob is, i dont like to say it, one of the few bands I have in my mind that crossed it more than 1-2 times.

I was soooo waiting this, thank you Tank from bottom of my heart 😍 My first touch, as a teenager, with metal music was Stone (Roope's ex-band). Stone is one of the biggest reason why Finland have so many metal bands. I was musically a little pit lost between ages 16-26. After that I founded my musical interest again, it was mostly metal and classical. I was over 30 years when I founded COB 🤩 Now I'm almost 50 years old and the death of no other celebrity has touched me so much than Alexi's death. First 2 weeks I cryied every day... And here we go again 😭 Even I'm from Finland, saw them only once on stage, precious memory 😊 and I have this dvd, it's one thing what "I will take with me if house is burning". I know some people criticized these "reactions", but I don't feel the same. As a fan, I see if some reactions are false. Atleast for me, in this pain of mine, it was great relief to see and hear people who shared their memories of Alexi. And found out how much people appreciated him, not only as a musician, but also as a person who was so funny, humble and warm hearted. He was so down to earth. Always had time for fans and shared his passion and knowledge to a novice musicians. He left us way too soon, but I think he lived his life as fullest. Made his dreams come true and still was his own self. Some people criticized him earlier how he changed their music during years. What I loved about COB that they was evolving all the time, always something different. One thing what make me even more sad, is that their last album Hexed is one of my favorite. How much awesome music Alexi took with him, we will never going to know that... Hugs 😍

@@TankTheTech yeah that lead in the chorus is difficult to get down on it’s own. I say that as someone who’s trying to get the string skipping down at that speed, I can’t imagine how much it would’ve taken to get that same part down while singing.
@AgeofJP3 жыл бұрын
@@metalftw9652 the most insane thing is that most of his solos are still leagues above in difficulty...once you can play the chorus you just have to play it so often that you basically play it by muscle memory, then get the vocals down individually and combining the two at this point isn't that hard. It's just a matter of time you have to dedicate to every song individually and it is generally only dependant on your confidence. Also a great way to get better with that is by simply not looking at your fretboard (unless you jump like 10 frets)...compared to playing and singing this chorus, the first solo took me like two more years of learning completely new techniques and developing the left hand dexterity required to play at that speed. And even now it would take me weeks if not months if I were to learn another solo of his, the stuff he wrote and performed when he was 17 years old...I'm so sad he's gone but he left a great legacy and created thousands of new guitarists. I've spotted many younger bands where the lead guitarist plays an ESP Alexi signature model and that's when I know... "One of us"

I just discovered your KZbin channel and I think you are a very cool guy. I am 39 years old and come from Germany. The first "extreme" Metal album I bought in the late 90s was Children of Bodom's SOMETHING WILD.

Young Finnish musicians. You have a gift for music, do your own thing. That kind of metal music that is unique. It goes a long way!

I had the privilege of seeing Children of Bogdon at the Electric Factory in Philly, years ago. When they got on stage a mosh pit opened and didn’t stop until they were done. Hell of a show, after COB was In Flames.

Even though I don't like Children of Bodom and never really enjoyed a single song from them, they still managed to take a place in my heart. Back in early 10-s I've been working in a local music web-media as a photographer. Sure, as the beginner I've been getting assigned to local artists or ones from neighbour countries, mostly in small venues with smaller audience. And the first show of really popular respected band in a huge concert hall I've been working on was Children of Bodom gig. Sure, my photos were not as great as they could've been cause again, it was my very first experience in such circumstances, but still this show is a sweet memory of mine. When Alexi died, I was thinking about reprocessing all the photos from that show, but unfortunately I've lost the original files, so all I've got is 900x600px pics. Still love them though.

This makes me both happy and sad. I discovered them in 2004 when i was 13 and a friend said, dude you have to listen to this! He played Bed of Razors for me and that was one of the coolest songs I had ever heard! It was my first taste of death metal and i never looked back ❤ i turn 30 this year and i still crank up these tunes when i get the chance. R.I.P Alexi

I remember seeing a Finnish TV ad for Something Wild in 1997. I was just so intrigued by the cover art (and I've had heard 'Deadnight Warrior' already), that the next day I went straight to the bank to withdraw some of my saved "monthly allowances" (I was about 9 yo at the time) and bought the album from my local record store. It had the original cover with the old blue logo (drawn by Finnish black metal musician Janne Sova), too bad I lost it years ago. However I feel you, this hit me also like a ton of bricks, and I think mainly because they've had so huge influence on me on many levels. Back in the day, they were heavy as fuck, but more importantly, the aspect that stood out was the TRUE no fucks given attitude considering your art and music. Not many bands or artists have that. Anyway, love your channel (I'm a music/gear geek myself). Keep it going!

Much love for this Tank. Children of Bodom holds a very special place in my heart too and specially the Hate Crew Deathroll CD. Pretty much what got me into metal as a 13 year old kid.

I liked them but wasn't a huge fun until they came to my town. I live in a small city in the middle of the Mediterranean and in 2004 they came for a festival. They weren't the headliners and the crowd wasn't that big.. still they came out like thunder and performed as if they were playing for 50.000 people. I remember thinking "so this is how a band who really loves playing sounds like..." :)

Such a heartfelt reaction, thank you Tank! I think you showed good judgement in doing this now rather than in January. And, sorry, but I'm going to comment on this every time I hear 'While We Sleep' in the background: you need to listen to more Insomnium. You're missing out on beautiful stuff.

I feel you bro. I got teary eyed watching this myself. Children of Bodom was probably my first real favourite band and Alexi was definitely my first musical hero. He's the reason I bought an ESP when I was 14 years old. I mean, it was heavy for me when Eddie Van Halen died as well but it's something about the fact that if it hadn't been for Alexi I wouldn't even have started playing guitar probably. We lost a great one. Thankfully the legend of Bodom will live on. ❤️

Wow Tank. I do no usually comment often at KZbin, but... You discovered them the way I did. It was not a friend, but my finnish cousin (I'm half finnish, half german), where I listened to Follow the Reaper first. I think it was... 2002. I was 14. A year later I discovered that Hate Crew Deathroll was released, when I was visiting my family in the summer. Hate Crew Deathroll was the first song, and is with Angel don't kill and Bed of Razors my favourite from this band. Really loved it. I sitll have the first Merchandise in my wardrobe, a black T-Shirt with "Hatecrew Deathroll", Size M, although today I'm size 3xl :D Keep up your fantastic work Tank and greetings from Germany!

And check Roope’s band Stone 🤘Magical first Album Get Stoned. There were talking that Hetfield copied one of Roopes riffs etc.. that was bull but the band was great 🤘🇫🇮

It was Kirk Hammet who was inspired by song "Get stoned" to make Enter Sandman. And you can clearly hear they did copy much from that song.

Thanks for this Tank! I've wathced this session many times but now I think I'm ready to comment... The grave of Alexi is just a couple of miles / kilometers away where I live and I have a habit to visit there. Summer 2024 in Tuska Festival in Helsinki Finland the band Warmen (including Janne Wirman and Antti Wirman) played three COB songs, Hate me!, Sixpounder and In Your Face. For me, this was something special. Something to pair with seeing Led Zeppelin live in Frankfurth 1980...one of their last gigs.

Great reaction Tank, you really should get the DVD it is awesome. Bands losing a member ( like Marco ) is hard, losing a member like Alexi is devastating . I remember finding out that Cliff Burton had died, as a teenager it was crushing.

That's my favorite song that they played live. You really need to get ahold of the DVD if you can. After watching CoB play live a few times I can confirm. They do sound that tight every performance. Truly one of the best.

CoB is a band I have long knew but only got into in recent year. One of my favorite songs long before I ever started appreciatibg extremer styles of metal and vocals was "Angels Don't Kill". It's still my favorite but others I love are "Chindren of Decadence", "If You Want Peace... Prepare For War", "Living Dead Beat", "Towards Dead End", "Blooddrunk" and "Everytime I Die". Would be cool to see reactions on them in due time ofc but that's not the underlying point of me mentioning them. The news didn't hit a soft spot for me due to being so new to the band as a fan but I understand what will be missed whenever I hear new music from them now. Obviously a major part in what I like in their sound and music and will be impossible to fully replace or copy. He's iconic! R.I.P Alexi Laiho. An exceptional talent and a legend!
